Chad..
I am sorry that you feel that you were "Labeled" over there in the SA group. With all do respect here, it seems that you put a "Label" on us too.
There are MANY ppl that come in and ask to be helped on detoxing off of many meds that they were only Dependent on, used as prescribed, or as needed. When they put up a question, they usually tell us this too!! WE are NOT against any medication that are needed for many reasons either. WE have TONS of ppl that have detoxed off these meds, only to need them back for pain, or other meds for other issues. WE have given them many tips on how to keep it under control.

Addiction is a serious Disease and it does come in many forums. Gambling, Shopping, Food, Porn, etc. It all has to do with ones Chemical makeup of the Brain. No one wants to become a Addict either. There are many reason why one will use, and for other reasons and/or can become Addicted. One being Tolerance, when we need more and more to kill the pain, Environment, Social Anxiety, Trauma, Depression, Stress, Energy, I can go on & on. There are many Transmitters, Receptors, Hormones, Nervous system, etc., and even that Mid-Brain (survival part) etc., that has so much to do with becoming addicted or even unbalancing the brain even more (look if up in a more scientific way)..I see tons of the ppl that come on that have never used any other drugs for recreational purposes or drank booze. They just ended up hooked on these after a long period of time, as some meds will change the chemical make up of the Brain/Body if used for a long time too. There can be a fine line between dependent and addicted. This all depends on the person. WE spend our time in the SA community to help ppl that want to come off these. It does not matter if they were addicted or dependent. WE care and try to help them get through a w/d by sharing our own tips that had helped us. I am very HAPPY for those who can take there meds as prescribed and for whatever reason they were prescribed for.
For some it is easy to cross the line and use them for all other reason on top of the real issues. In your case, I am very happy for you! I think maybe some ppl just did not understand your post, and also you did not say anything about being dependent until you relied back. I wish you the best and you are welcome over in the SA anytime. WE do care and are willing to help you get off these meds with NO judgement if you would like.
Bless

You are more than welcome here in the Pain Management group. You'll find a wealth of knowledge here that is focused on our pain treatments, and the dependence is simply a given and nothing to be stigmatized about. Tuck's on vacation currently but will be back soon.

Thankyou I don't know if I can quit my meds totally, it just seems that if I can take just a small amount, that I should be able to leave it all. I'm sending my PC for upgrades tmw so I will be gone  from here for about a week from tmw.

We reached out to you and gave you some excellent advice and ideas on how to get thru this.  We also understand exactly what you were saying and how you were feeling.  Yes, we are actual addicts.......in recovery.

All the best~

Thankyou, and I do appreciate your input. It's difficult when you're on pain management and part of the deal is that you do become physically addicted. There's a big difference between those who seek drugs just to get "high" and those who are prescribed those same meds for chronic pain. I don't want the stigma anymore. Thankfully, I don't have to get my prescriptions from walgreens.
