Killing Pain

Hi All I have a pain that is on my lower right side of my stomach, this pain is also in my right leg. I have been taking pain medicine for this, but it seems to get worse, I have been to the doctor, he said it was a torn muscle. I don't think so because I haven't been doing any working out. I get this after my periods. Can someone help?

Hi.
I thought of something else. Has the Doc checked for endometriosis? I had that also and during and after I would get horrible pain. I ultimately had a Hysterectomy.

Hi Enjoylife,

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum at MedHelp. I'm glad you found us but I am sorry that you are having so much pain.

If I understand your post correctly the physicians believe your pain is from a torn muscle? We can injury muscles, ligaments, even rupture disc with no more than a normal turn or twist. You did not say how long this has been going on. If it has been more than 3 weeks and your pain has not improved that it obviously needs further investigation.

And you beleive this is a menstrual cyclic pain? I'm sure it won't make you feel better to know that this is not all that uncommon. Many woman have pain that disables them before, during or after their menses. It is also not uncommon for that pain to radiate down your leg. It's called referred pain and often will travel to other areas of of body than the original site.

If your pain becomes intolerable do not hesitate to seek emergency medical care. If it does not improve than I encourage to have a long discussion with your PCP. Impress upon him/her how very uncomfortable you are and that you want additional diagnostic evaluation. We hire physicians, they work for us and if they are not providing the service we hired them to do than it is time to find a physician that will.

I have applied a heating pad to my lower abdomen when I have had cyclic pain along with IB and it has varying degrees of effectiveness. You may have already tried that but I thought it was worth mentioning.

I hope you will soon have some answers to your pain. Don't give up, keep asking for solutions to your pain. Please keep us posted and let us know how you are doing. And as always, take care, Tuck

Thank you for your quick response, I have had tests (I sat in the emergency all day), I can't begin to tell what kind, but at the end of the day I asked if it was my appendicitis or kidneys, liver, pelvic, I was told no, and then the doctor said that some women have these sort of pains after their cycle. I was given pain medicine and that was that. The pain is back much worse. Just want it to stop.

Hello and welcome to Med Help.

Sorry to hear of the discomfort you are experiencing. Has the Doctor run any tests for this? I ask because there are a couple of things located in the right side of the stomach. One is upper and one is lower. The upper right side of the stomach is the Gal Bladder. This can cause pain if it is inflammed or you have stones but this is serious pain and the lower part of the right side is your liver. If you have liver troubles like inflammation, liver disease or a disorder that effects the liver, medication can actually irritate the liver causing pain. I have a disease that effects my liver and if I take too much medication that day, I will get right quadron pain which feels like an intense side ache that can radiate into the hip.
I would suggest that if you are not satisfied with your current Doctor's answers that you get a second opinion. Make the Doctor run multiple tests. Don't ever take an answer from a Doctor that dosen't satisfy you.
I'm sure others will post as the day goes on. Sundays are slow response days.
Take care and good luck,
Mollyrae
