Lower abdominal pain

I am 28 yr old woman that started having lower abd pain like i was about to have my period.  My period is not due for another 2 weeks and i took a pregnancy test today, and it was neg.  But the pain is a dull boring pain and it will radiate to the rectal area at times.  I do not have constipation, and bowels are normal, and no bleeding to what i see.  So I am trying to see what your answers would be for this situation.  Thanks!

Hi, I have had constant lower and upper abdominal pain for three and a half years. Everyone told me it was in my head. Although in the past 6 months I have been diagnosed with borderline functioning gallbladder, endometriosis, adenomyosis, and interstitial cystitis. Endometriosis pain does flare up before your period, during and after. It is a sharp, knife-stabbing, ripping pain. Interstitial cystitis pain flares up before your period as well, and it is a constant sharp, or dull ache. Often involving the lower pelvic region, perineum, and anus. It also has bowel cramping, endo doesn't. Another reason for pain could be a UTI. I suggest you research interstitial cystitis. I had never head of it before I was diagnosed, it is chronic inflammation of the bladder. It can include ulcers, or not, and petechial hemorrhages. It is extremely painful, and it can affect your whole pelvic region front and back. Some people have it for years without any symptoms, and some people have it a short time and have every symptom. Keep us posted!

Welcome to the Pin Mangement Forum of MedHelp. I am glad that you found us and took the time to post. However I am very sorry to hear about your pain.

Appendicitis is a possibility but I would imagine your physician has ruled this out. I hope you have consulted your PCP. If not please do so.

These symptoms could also indicate an ovarian cyst. There are just so many possibilities that it is difficult to "guess" what could be going on. Sometimes a spinal injury can manifest itself as abd pain and rectal pain.

I encourage you to make an appointment with your PCP. It's a good place to start. If need be he/she can refer you on to specialists that may be more appropriate in the diagnostic process.

Please keep in touch. I hope you will soon have an resolution to your pain.

Take Care,
~Tuck

You could also have endometriosis.  Endometriosis tends to flare up a few weeks before you start your period.  It is very painful, and feels like someone is pulling and twisting in your lower abdomen and the pain goes through to your back.  I would suggest calling your obgyn and have them take a look at you.  Please let us know how it turns out.

You could have appendicitis.  It doesn't always present acutely with the fireworks of pain, nausea and vomiting.  Pain is almost always located in the lower right quadrant of the abdomen, but sometimes the pain gets referred to other abdominal areas instead.  It could also be any number of gynecological or gastrointestinal problems.  You really need to see your doctor about it.  Any time you have continuous pain like this, you need to seek a professional opinion and get it diagnosed.
