Medication law in the State of Maryland

I am trying to discover if it is a Maryland State Law that when you leave a Doctor's practice, that doctor is required by State Law to continue to medicate you for 30 days from the date you agree to leave that practice?

Anybody know the answer? Would really appreciate some feedback

I just wanted to say I am sorry this has happened to you.
I know two people this happened to.  I have a feeling it may be in the contract someplace.
They were caught doctor shopping and were dismissed from the PMP
Doctor shopping is illegal.
Now that there is a monitoring system in place it is very easy for people to get caught

Good luck

Hello Cris,

Welcome to the Pain Mangement Forum.

Much depends on the reason you were dismissed from the PMP. There are laws in most states called the patient abandonment law. This states in short that a physician cannot dismiss you without treating you in some form for thirty days.

There are exceptions to this law. One would be a dirty urine drug test, filled with illegal drugs. Some states than even go so far to say as they need to follow you for addiction and provide you with withdrawal treatment, other states do not provide state that.

Actually by the tome you obtain an attorney and might the patient abandonment law it is far beyond the thirty days. However I am far from an attorney and do not take my opinions as legal advice. Please call your state or contact an attorney. If you violated the contract you options are much more limited.

Best of Luck to you,'

Hi limeychris,

I want to welcome you to the Pain Management Clinic and tell you that we are glad that you have found this Forum. I need to let yo know that there are NO Doctors on this Forum ONLY CP (Chronic Pain) Patients that help each other thru sharing our OWN experiences  and expertise with OUR pain with the others on here.

Need less to say, I'm also NOT an Attorney. I know that in MOST cases it all depends on what your PM (Pain Management) Contract says that you signed. (If you had to sign one.) I don't know whether State Law plays a part in it at all. Some PM Clinics DO give you 30 days worth of medicine BUT others give you NOTHING. It's just up to the Dr.'s and their contracts or their procedures.

Why don't you Google it and see if you can find an answer. Or call the State and see what they might say.

I hope that you will let us know what you found out. Good Luck.....Sherry
