Neuropathy in feet

I have had neuropathy in feet for ten years and also a trouble with peroneal tendon on right foot. I have to wear a brace on that foot. The brace is plastic and very uncomfortable. The whole thing is not getting any better either and I am thinking of changing podiatrists. I am always in constant pain and I take tramadol and Neurontin for that. I have a hard time keeping up with my grandkids and it is very frustrating to me to be in constant pain. please help!!!!The tramadol and Neurontin both make me very tired in general.

Hello Cold,

Welcome to our Pain Management Community. I'm so sorry to hear about your chronic pain. We can empathize.

I think you're right, it's time to change podiatrists. In fact I may request a consult with an orthopedist that specializes in ankles and feet. I know the foot is a podiatrist's specialty - but sometimes it helps to change specialties.

Neurontin was not effective in treating my nerve pain. I found Lyrica to be better for me.

Tramadol recently became a Scheduled Drug - we all knew it was coming but it took awhile. It's still a very mild opiate. You been benefit from a more potent analgesic. No one should have to exist in poorly managed Chronic Pain. My heart goes out to you!

I agree a change may be beneficial however before you make that change have a long talk with your current podiatrist. Maybe you have done that but if not please do. Make sure he knows how very uncomfortable you are - and how fatigued you are with the situation. See if he can offer you other options. I would still seek a 2nd opinion unless you are content with what new options he may offer you.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. Feel free to add comments to your post and be active in our community. I'll look forward to hearing from you.

Best Wishes,
~Tuck
