Occular Migraines

Hi Everyone,

I was reading Designgirl's Post that had everyone talking about the Occular Migraines.

As you may or may not know I had my MRI last week because of the "spells" I've had over the past several years, since 2003 approimately where my vision blurs completely especially on the right side and my head feels (for lack of a better word) "FUZZY" inside. I'll be perfectly honest I'm HOPING and PRAYING that these haven't been "mini strokes" and was wondering could these possibly be some sort of an "occular Migraine" ? My right side also felt weak. It took it about 20 to30 minutes for the blurrieness (couldn't see a thing clearly) and the weakness to pass.

Any input would be GREATLY appreciated!! I don't get my results back until August 2nd at my next appointment with my PM Dr.

Thanks guys I really appreciate ANY and ALL ideas and information that you may have.

Hi Jaybay,

No this is JUST something that I thought about when I read Karen's post and you all were talking about them. I have NO idea IF that's what they are. That's the reason for the MRI of the Brain. He's concerned about Mini-Strokes and that's why the MRI. I"ve just decided I'd RATHER have these Migraines INSTEAD of mini-strokes  (LOL, I'm kidding) I'm HOPING that EVERYTHING comes back NORMAL and it just happened to be a GLITCH in my electrical system!!  :)

I was afraid that there might be more to it since I had the other problems too.  OH WELL, I was HOPING!!! I knew that you all would have some idea.

Thank you , my Dear......Sherry

Hey Sherry.  Have you ever talked to an eye doctor about the occular migraines and blurred vision?  That's who diagnosed my husband - even our family doctor had no clue.  LOL!  The eye doc said they really don't know why they happen and recommended waiting them out rather than throwing meds at them.  That's because meds effect every vessel in the body, and treating a painless occular migraine with meds stands to bring on a full-blown head migraine.

Judging by your symptoms, I don't think this is just occular migraine because the symptoms are entirely restricted to the eyes.  I'd have to guess you've had some TIA's but they generally aren't troublesome long-term.  My aunt started getting them a few years ago and while a couple episodes were pretty scary, the symptoms only lasted an hour or so.  An MRI confirmed she's had many, many of them probably for years that were in parts of the brain that were asymptomatic.   Good for you for going ahead with the MRI!  When do you get the results?  Try not to be too worried about it - you know we're all counting on it being a minor problem.  :-)

I wanted to add an afterthought. I don't know if this matters or not, BUT from around 1982 through 1990, I had continuous Migraines and was on Plain Fiorinal for them. Because those were so debilitating, it NEVER dawned on me that these occurrences could possibly be cause by a type of Migraine. I didn't have ANY debilitating pain at all with my head ONLY that "fuzzy" feeling that almost seemed to be a burning sensation. I JUST don't know how to explain it. I've also had every once in awhile a VERY HARD pain right behind my ears and when I rub along< I don't know if it's a nerve or blood vessel back there, but when I rub it, it's EXTREMELY painful and it almost pops and then the pain will lessen and go away.

I don't know why I've NEVER asked these questions before other than I just never thought about them at the time since my disability has NOTHING to do with any of this.

Thank You all for taking your time to help.  :)  :).........Sherry
