excruciating pain-muscle spasm

while bearing down for a bowel movement, I began having what I think was a muscle spasm in my lower, right (front) pelvic area and moving upward towards my right side under my ribs.  
It lasted approx three minutes.  I've had the spasm in my pelvic area before with bowel movement but it never moved upward.  Only by sheer will power was I able to move.

Is this something to check with the dr or just a muscle spasm.

Any ideas?  Any same experiences?

Without a physical exam, there's no way of knowing if this symptom is caused by a health problem of concern. If this pain continues, see your doctor.
