Severe pain 9 days after a Sacroiliac Joint injection w cortisone

I had the injection done in a surgery center under fluoroscopic x-ray.  I immediately felt left leg and thigh go numb and was a little dizzy and thirsty but ok.  2-3 hrs later I felt like the needle was stuck in my back approx. 2-3 inches above the injection site and have been in excruciating pain ever since.  I take Norco for pain management 3 time a day and it wasn't touching it.  Feels like the needle/knife moves when I move and I could hardly dress myself let alone care for my children.  I waited thinking this is normal but the injection site itself never really bothered me.  Finally by day 5 I couldn't take it, I went to ER and they told me they believe root nerve was hit.  Follow up with Dr that did the procedure.  After a day in  a half response was MRI and blood work is ordered, I have arthritis and I need to quit smoking!!  I know I need to stop smoking but what does that have to do with all this ADDED pain since this miracle shot as the doctor put it.  I have read people have gotten relief from them so I gave in, now I am so sorry i ever did.  Still at a loss as to what tp do, the doctors seem to look at me like I am making it up.  MRI is scheduled for next week!

Thank you for reading my post and taking the time to comment.  I am so frustrated since I have never had this procedure before and was hesitant in the first place.  I felt backed in a corner, like this was the only option and now pain is worse.  I have read so much about it my head is spinning.  I am only 41 and used to be very active.  Will def. look into a second opinion too.

Those injections can be very painful! I'm sorry you are having trouble and hurting. Having an MRI is a good idea at this point (my opinion) in case something is going on other then what your being treated for. I had several sets of lumbar epidural injections and they caused me more pain and ultimately needed surgery anyways.  If your doctor doesn't listen to your confers about the increased pain then I would suggest a second opinion. Make sure you take your records and MRI films with you to the new doctor. Life's to short to be living in pain.
