Burning in lower back after a fall in the bathtub?

My mom fell in the shower about an hour ago, and around 5 minutes after the fall and hitting her lower back and top of her butt on the side of the tub, she began to feel a warming or burning sensation from within. My mom is a very tough lady and she claims it's just going to bruise and is swelling.. but the weird burning tipped me off that something may not be right. The burning now has reduced to a painful throb.. Is there anything seriously wrong with her or could something wrong happen? What is some proper care she needs? Should she see a doctor? Why did the burning occur?

Please give follow up from yesterday's fall. Burning could be internal nerve, blood vessel or organ damage. Yes swelling followed by bruising will occur.

Hi any back injury is best checked out. Your Mum should put ice pack's on top of a thin cloth to prevent 'ice burn'. Do 15 minutes on wait 40 mins and repeat. This should be done at least once an hour for the first 24 hrs or if there is infflamation . After this use a warm pack/clothe the same way for any stiffness it will also help the muscle to relax. Epsom salt's, put a cup or 2 in a warm as you can stand bath.Stay in 20mins if you start getting drowsy or heavy limbed get out!! Epsom salts will promote sleep and relaxation. Or soak a clothe in a bowl of warm water with a cup of Epsom in it and apply to any sore/bruised area.  Re-soak the cloth if it cool's down during 15mins. Chiropractors are great for back injuries, BUT burning may indicate Nerve damage but a good Chiroprator will take everything in to account and if they beleive your Mum should see an MD they will tell you so. Love Tswana xxxxx
