So im getting a single level lumbar fusion next monday, sept 9th. I was wondering what kind of medication I should be expecting to be on while in the hospital and when I am discharged. Thanks!

I had a fusion at L1 and L 2, I had drains and couldn't move for 2 days, I had a pain pump for 2 and 1/2 days, they said it was stronger than morphine, and I had a morphine pump with a hysterectomy in 2006, this was a lot better, could hit the pump every 3 mins. Then they took me off the pump, and started with hydros, but didn't work that well so they tried percocets 10s, and that worked well combined with flexerals ( muscle relaxers) that's what I took home. Wearing a brace for 3 months also. They told me not to wait for the pain to get out of hand before taking them, take them every 4 hrs for the 1st days home, and walk and drink plenty of fluids. Oh yea, the must stool softers, and you will need these.  God bless and good luck!!!!

Sorry to bother, one more question. How long were you on medication after the surgery?

Well don't worry, they seem to set the meds for patient, everyone respond different, you are awful young, but you should heel fast. If you are concerned call your surgeons office or talk to him before the surgery. I wish you the best, keep in touch!
