Strange Pain

I have this burning pain under my left shoulder blade in the back and wrapping around to under my ribcage on my front right.  So it's a pain, under my ribs that goes through to the back.  It's worst in the back, though.  It's different from my "regular" pain.  It's more of a burning and deep aching.
I went to the ER for it on Tuesday and they just strapped a monitor on my belly to make sure I wasn't in labor )duh)and without even examining me or running any tests, told me that the "wouldn't give me anything" (not that I even asked or expected it but they could have at least examined the area) and to alternate heat and ice as if it were a muscle strain.  It went away so I wasn't too worried about it but it came back as I was sleeping tonight and woke me up.  I took a regular dose of my meds and it's going away some but still a noticeable pain.
I did go shopping last night and hence was a lot more active than usual, walking and standing.  It just seems like a wierd place to pull a muscle from walking and standing.
I may ask this in the G.I. forum as well as it feels like it's an organ.  I just haven't been able to figure out which organ it would be and you are all generally so knowlegeable about pain.
Any suggestions or ideas as to what it could be are appreciated!  I think I'm going to make an appt with the PM doc anyway, but having an unknown pain is really unnerving.

Thanks, everyone!  I made an appt with the doctor for Monday (moved up from Thursday) so I am hoping he will have an idea of what it is and what we can do about it.  The ER did do a urinalysis, that was the only test they did and they said there's nothing in my urine at all.  So that was good in a way as I used to get UTIs a lot, but at the same time it's a little worrying as it's not something we can "fix".
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who's had it, Sandee.  The ER doc did suggest it was maybe the organs being all squished in there with the expaning uterus, but at the same time I only get this pain occasionally.  The past couple times have been at night, so I'm thinking sleeping has something to do with it.
Houseofgirls- I've been chewing some tums when I feel a little heartburn coming on and a few times have taken a zantac if it's bad.  I have been meaning to ask if it's safe, but I believe it is. I know it's okay to take tums, but I'll call and make sure about the zantac.
I was thinking gallbladder at first, too, as it seemed likely, but as everyone has said, wrong side.  It's weird.  I googled it and found that the organs on the left are the upper stomach and pancreas.  I think I may try to take it easy on anything that will cause heartburn and see if it's that and call and make sure it's okay to take zantac.
If it keeps up after that, hopefully the doctor will do some bloodwork.  I have to say I'm terrified of having fibro as I've noticed many people with CP have it.  Hopefully it's not that.
Thank you everyone for your replies!

Hi,
I am sorry to hear your having more pain than usual. I have the same pain you describe on a daily basis and it is from the fibro in my case. Heat helps alot for my pain. I stand under the shower when it is bad and point the shower head right on the painful area and this relives the pain for awhile.
You could have some GERD issues or even problems with your kidneys. Are you experiencing problems using the bathroom or having any burning or itching?
With you being so far along with your pregnancy I would go ahead and see your Doc just to be sure everything is normal.
I hope your feeling better very soon:)

It could be kidney pain. Did they even run a urinalysis? Kidney pain can often be referred around the front. I hope it's not, but maybe try to get your creatinine/BUN & protein levels checked.

I hope you feel better soon!

I also thought gallbladder at first, but as happyhbmom says, wrong side!  I hope you start to feel better soon.  Pregnancy makes everything feel uncomfortable.

I was thinking gallbladder, but that's the wrong side.  Other side is... pancreas?

But more likely something just got pushed around and didn't like it.  Feel better!

Have you tried taking a pepcid or zantac?  It may be acid reflux.  I had horrible acid reflux throughout all three of my pregnancies.  By my 3rd pregnancy, I was on prescription meds for it.  Both pepcid and zantac over the counter were on my safe meds list.  As was tums.  If it is not on your safe list, you might want to call your OB to see if you can take it.

Thanks, Flower! I was really surprised they didn't either.  It's like if a pregnant woman goes in with a problem other than being in labor they just want to run and hide.
The doctor said "Well we can't run x-rays or anything" and I looked at her thinking "Actually you can, but you don't feel it's worth it.".  I'm definetly going to see my PM and OB about it.

I have no idea what it could be, but the ER should have run tests! I'm glad that you're going to make an appointment with your doctor.

I sometimes get pain in a different place, but it's usually because I moved the wrong way or lifted something that I shouldn't have.

I'm so sorry that you're having this added pain.

Praying for you.

Hugs,

Flower
