Switching off Oxycontin to Nucynta

Hello,
I take 80 mg Oxycontin 2 x a day (160 mg total), and abou 4-6 norco's (all prescribed by my primary care physician.)  I just started with a specialist and she precribed me 75mg Nucynta tablets to take 4 times a day, and said for me to cut down on the Oxycontin. My question is, if I immediatly stop taking the oxy and only take the Nucynta will I withdrawl? I can't find the equavalance comparison between these two meds.

I have heard from a few people who did this, and yes they did withdraw.

I believe you will experience some withdraws.  Something like the stomach flu with irritation and ancyness from what I read anyway.  I am getting ready to stop my Norco and Soma and I am really nervous about it.  But feel I need to before I become addicted and to see where I am with out them.  Please let me know how you do.  I am curious to hear your response to the stopping of Oxy and reaction to new medication.  Good luck and keep me posted.

PLEASE, PLEASE be very , very careful when you go to a Specalist. they know very well that you can only get narcotic Pain Medication from one Dr. So just be careful ,and don't them them con you into try to get you off your pain meds so they can treat you. Here is a good hypathetical example; (ok)? I have Osteo arthritis, so I WENT TO A REHUMATOID SPECIALIST,and  thought they might be able to help me. I FOUND OUT VERY QUICK THEY ONLY WANTED ME TO STOP TAKING MY PAIN MEDS SO THEY COULD TREAT ME.  I know pain medications are very addictive, but if you are taking 80mg twice daily,ad some IR's chances are you are in chronic pain, and you NEED your pain medication very badly. Unless some Magical gene can 100% heal you TELL ANY SPECIALIST YOUR PAIN MEDS ARE NON NEGOTABLE. .PLEASE DO NOT LET SOME OTHER SPECIALIST TAKE THEM AWAY. You will play HELL getting them back TRUST ME. Unless you are going to PAIN MANAGEMENT because yourPC  wants you to thats FINE, because they won't take them away. (but) I am for warning you donot let any other specialist call your Dr. that supplies you your pain meds. You will regret it. Also donot sign any papers so they can call your pain Dr. These specialist that do this are trying to trick you into letting them hold the ranes, and make all the decisions. That why they cuod only prescribe what they did. THIS IS JUST MY OPINION,BUT I AM RARELY WRONG WHEN IT COMES TO THIS SUBJECT!!!!  If you want to stop taking your pain meds. then by all means do what you think is best. ALL I ASK IS PLEASE DONOT RUSH THIS. Once you give them up it could take 1-2 years to get them back. I wish you the very best, and I'm not trying to scare you. I just know how the system works. I have benn in CHRONIC PAIN FOR16 years. Sincerely

I am not trying to keep you on pain meds. by any means, Or get you hooked. No,No No thats not what I'm saying at all. I KNOW THIS MUCH IF YOU ARE GETTING 80mg. oxycontin, and your instint release from YOUR PRYMARY CARE DR. THEN you better go have agood heart to heart talk with your PC before you let some Dr. you don't even know INFLUENCE YOU. In my area Primary care doctors don't write what you are taking so you MUST NEED IT. All I suggest is edjucate your self ,and take to your prymary before making this tough decission. (OK)???

I don't know whats going on in your entire situation, but if you want to quit taking your pain meds. then why don't you let your Dr. that is currently presrcibing your pain meds. make all the IMPORTANT DECISIONS???   Like I said before if you want to stop taking pain medication I SUPPORT YOU TOTALLY, (but) please be rational about it so you are a 100% sure you are doing the right thing.
