Urine Test

I've been on Methadone and Percocet for several years due to chronic pain. I took a urine test a few months ago after I ran out 7 to 10 prior to the test
I failed, I had to convince my Dr. that I wasn't selling them (I have never sold them). I usually take 6-8 Perccets & 6 Methadone daily. A couple weeks ago I did some chores that I shouldn't have done. They might spring a test on me in 2 days, I've taken only
6-7 in the last 5-6 days, 2 today and 3 tomorrow
and none on the day of the test. what might the test tell the Dr.

Trixie: I agree w/everyone above.  Most of the urine tests done in the doctor's office are done just to see if the medicine is in your system, not the levels of the medication.  I know that if my doctor wants to know the levels, they will send out for it through a more advanced and sensitive but expensive test which is why they do not use it often and only in rare situations.

I would recommend taking your medications only as prescribed and if they are not working, have them switch you to something long acting or a different dose or combination.  Most people I know who are constantly running out or running low are dealing with addiction issues.  It is very common it seems nowadays for people to take more than prescribed and it is usually because they do not even realize that they are taking that much because their bodies become used to a certain level and that level gets harder and harder to reach.  When that happens, it is time to switch medicines.  We might not be addicts but our bodies do become addicted and the usual dosages don't work anymore which is what may be happening.  You may have been on a certain dose for too long and it has become less effective.  Maybe talk to your doctor or nurse about it.  I am honest w/my pain mgmt doctor and you would be surprised at what they already know and how much they are willing to do what is best for us.

Don't worry about the silly test. If it's a urine test the medications will show up in your urine, especially the methadone. It has a very long half life. Please reconsider the way you are taking your medication and be honest with your self and the doctors. You will be much better off in the short and long run. good luck.

It's important to take the meds as they are prescibed. if it's pain causing you to take more than prescibed, then that's one thing. If it's addiction or something like that, then that's another thing. the main thing is to tell your doctor what's going on. It will save you alot of problems down the line.

Hello there. I am not sure, but I believe your dr. is checking for the presence of your medication in your urine. I don't think that the concentration of the meds can be detected in urine, but would be confirmed by a blood test. Good luck!
