Flank and back pain

I've been suffering from flank pain for over 4 months now.Mainly on my right side but...it is also fell on my left side on occasions.....

last year I was diagnosed with a heat stroke and this condition created a muscle breakdown releasing myoglobin to my body( Rhabdomyolysis)A condition in which skeletal muscle cells break down,  (the oxygen-carrying pigment in muscle)  and that created an acute Kidney failure. Fortunately I recovered my kidney functions. since then I have been in many test including 2 renal scans, 2 ultra sound, Ct, 24 hr creatine urine test. kidney stone test.... blood test and others....none of then show any problems with my kidneys....
I
In an recent Ct scan and ultra sound an ecogenic focus was discover on my right kidney (7mm)...my nephrologists told me  it was a very small cyst, but she sent me to an urologist for further evaluation....My urologist said that this was a very small focus on the CT....and that he believed the cause of my pain comes from other sources ...such as my spine..and the disc problems I previously have( was diagnosed with DDD) few years ago....herniated disc on C-2-C3...Bulge on C4-C5....a pinch nerve on C5...a bulge on T1-T2 and an  herniated disc on T3-T4.....)
question....can this, spine problems and nerve issues, be the possible source of Flank pain in Both sides of my body(left and right side Flank pain)???
could some one, please advise??????

The MRI showed nothing diffrent than my previous CT and US....an ecogenic 7mm, focus on right Kidney.....My urologist still believe this an Hemorragic cyst......
..... my pain has minimized.......I'm taking Tramadol ultra and I stop working out.....

Hello Pupi,

I understand your concern. Our kidneys are very important organs. I have a cyst on my right kidney and none of my pain is attributed to it.

I have chronic flank pain that can be bilateral. I have spine issues and SIJ dysfunction that are the source of my flank pain. So I would feel comfortable with what you urologist is telling you. However if you are not comfortable with that reason than seek out a second opinion.

There are additional kidney function tests that you can have but I think you have had the most comprehensive ones available. But again you have to feel comfortable with the answers, not me.

When we experience a life threatening condition that is resolved it can be difficult to move past that and realize we are ok. I know as I have been there. So try not to let the fear rule you but do what you need to do to feel more at ease.

Best of luck to you. Please let us know how you are doing. I will look forward to your updates. We are here for you. Take care, Tuck

Problems with the spine can cause so many different symptoms, especially when the nerve roots or spinal cord are being compressed. You could also have muscle spasms that can cause your flanks to hurt. In your case you said you have had kidney problems not to long ago. I know with that in your mind every pain coming from around that area you may be scared is coming from your kidneys. If all the tests are coming back okay and you have exausted everything possible to make sure it is not your kidneys, the next logical thing to assume is that it is coming from somewhere else.

You should keep trying to find where it is coming from and talk to your doctor about what other tests you can do to find out the source.
I wish you the best in finding out what it is. I know how awful it can be when you have no clue where the pain is from and just want some answers.
