extreme rob pain and nerve pain

I have been having severe "hugging" pain to the point i,m in tears. I also have a very enlarged spleen but my ONC. cannot say  that is the issue.I have had on going shock like feeling when walking bladder and bowel changes...face and leg pain that feels like a quick flash. Also warm liquad feeling on inner thigh ( strange feeling ).My pcp thought it could sound like MS symptoms and i will be seeing a specialist soon.Just wanted to post for anyone who feels the same that the only relief i have had is from taking baclofen....I still have nerve pain but the squeezing is,nt half as bad as it was. This is the type of pain i would.nt wish on anyone. After many scans, increased chemo drugs (hydrea) nothing seemed to work.To me it sounds feesable to seek a neurologist seeing the ONC. cannot be sure.

Yes Onc is oncologist , and the spleen is being cared for with hydrea( chemo drug)i also have polycythemia rubra vera and spleen removal is the last move .Next step would be radiation. After many scans the oncologist cant tell meif its causing all the other symptoms. The only relief i have had is a M.S drug called baclofen. So many appts. i,m taking a breather (except eye doc) till Jan.They plan to increase the hydrea in hopes it will reduce the spleen size. However it causes my platlets to fall below 100 So all this nerve pain i really don,t think is related to PV (polcythemia)I havebeen chasing my tale over this for a year and things have gotten worse till my wonderful pcp(personalcare provider) gave me the baclofen.Thank you for you replies nice meeting you.I wish you better health especailly over the holidays and heres to a great 2010(premature lol) ty agn

Hi Dee,

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I am glad that you found us.

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing such unusual painful symptoms. I am a bit confused when you say hugging pain. I am not certain what ONC means unless it's oncology or a oncologist. Can you help us understand what you are saying?

Mollyrae is correct that in some instances an severely enlarged spleen can be life threatening. Her concern is founded. However an enlarged spleen (called splenomegaly) can be from any number of  conditions from infections to liver disease and even some cancers. I assume your physician knows the source and is treating it and monitoring your spleen closely. If not he certainly should be.

For the other symptoms you describe I think it would make sense to consult a neurologist. Your symptoms do sound as if they may be nerve related. I hope you will keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. We are here to support you.

Take Care,
Tuck

Hello Dee and welcome to the Pain Forum:

A Slpeen that is " very enlarged" as you say is a danger to you. It could burst and you would bleed internally. When a person has a speen that is extremely enlarged, Surgeons remove it before it bursts and the person dies from internal bleeding. You MUST have it evaluated in an ER. Please listen when I tell you that your condition is an emergency. By the way, what is an ONC? I'm totally suprised that with an enlarged spleen, nothing is being done about it.

Have it checked out. Please take care and good luck,
Mollyrae
