How long have you had the headache (HA)? How often do you get them? There are basically 3 kinds of H.A., tension/stress, cluster, & migraine. It sounds like you have a stress H.A. caused by your job. What medicines have you tried?
I have chronic pain and I take opiates for it but those meds don't work for my H.A.s. Mine are more like migraine and the only thing that works well is an over the counter compound of Tylenol, aspirin & caffeine. The opiate med. (Percocet) seems to only make it worse. Caffeine is key. Sometimes just aspirin along w/ a cup of strong coffee works well. Has your doctor identified what type H.A. you have?
Good luck and let us know how it goes. ;-)

Hello, I'm so sorry for your headaches! They truly are a pain. I have a few reasons that could contribute to mine... I can tell the difference between the two I get- one being due to a condition I have (and had a brain & spine surgery for- for which I'm still recivering & am told that migraines can be more frequent after a brain surgery..kind of figured so lol!) But, my dx'd migraine is an ocular migraine. It's always both eyes, never ine sided, I do not get auras or spotty vision (I get that from my Chiari condition lol!) but it's intensely ocular. I feel pressure, intense pain & burning like sensation. I get VERY sensitive to the light and any motion around me makes it worse and the nausea will worsen- that why an ER is the LAST place I'd ever choose to be w/a Migraine. I've found my golden ticket- a sumatriptan nasal spray does the trick 90% of the time- I like that percentage!
I suppose in just hopping in to tell you my experience. As others mentioned, it's a great idea to see a headache specialist..I have a Neurologist that is a headache specialist (and as my Chiari fall into the Neuroligical field, it's great that I have an awesome Neurologist! ;) ) or a neurologist. Seeing one of these kind of specialists can help determine what type of headache/migraine you have. Keeping a headache journal can/IS very helpful!! My Neurologist was so happy I came in, armed with a journal already(what I activity, what I ate, when/time of day it occurred, the frequency...how many times a month, they's never tooooo much info. you can give to a headache specialist to help them aid you in dx'g you headache!)
I wish you luck and hope to hear from you again & update us on your headache journey to help!

I'm sorry to hear that your head pain is increasing. Have you had any imaging done of your head? I encourage you to consult a Migraine or Headache specialist.

As your headache is one sided it does sound more like a migraine. Coffee can help ease some headaches/migraines. My migraines get so extreme that I cannot eat, drink or function. I'm blessed that they do not come often.

I hope you'll keep us updated.

Hello Rsahilv,

Welcome to our Pain Management Community. I'm glad you found us and took the time to post - but sorry to hear about your headaches/migraine. Sorry, I am not certain I understood your post completely. Please feel free to add more information - or explain your question(s).

Please know that you are always welcome here. However I'd be amiss if I didn't inform you of our Migraine and Headache Forum. It's more focused on issues such as yours and may offer more suggestions and information. Here's the link: http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Migraines--Headaches

Are you asking for the definition of a Migraine? Think of Migraines as a severe Headache. Often the two terms are used interchangeably - but there is a difference. Headaches are unpleasant pains in your head that can cause pressure and aching. They can range from mild to moderate pain and usually occur on both sides of your head. However Cluster headaches occur on one side of the head, but aren’t as severe as migraines. When you talk about Headaches and Migraines it gets complicated and detailed. I won't bore you with a lot of information.

There are all types of Migraines and Headaches. Here's a list of some of the terms used for Migraines. Stress Migraine, Abdominal Migraine, Silent, or Acephalgic, Migraine, Sinus Migraine, Ocular Migraine, Seasonal (Allergy) Migraines, Cyclic Migraine Syndrome, Gastric Stasis Migraine and Tension Migraine. And there are more!

Migraines are DX (diagnosed) based on one's specific SXs (symptom)s. It comes with more SX that just head pain. As an example I always have nausea and vomiting when I have a migraine and I cannot tolerate light. They usually affect only one side of the head - but can affect both sides.

If you have no other SX and your pain is bilateral (both sides) than it sounds more like a nasty headache. There are Headache and Migraine Centers and/or Physicians that specialize in the treatment of Headaches and Migraines. If you are obtaining no pain relief or reasons from your current Medical Practitioner than it may be time to consult the specialists.

I'd use your Search Engine to locate information on Migraines and Headaches. There is a lot of information available. You may even be able to find a Practitioner that specializes in them in your area.

I wish you the best and hope you'll keep in touch. I hope something I have said has been helpful. If you need more clarification or you have specific questions please feel free to ask.

Take Care,
~Tuck

Migraines are usually on one side of the head. I had them for years. A migraine is when the blood vessels in the head constrict and then dilate and they leak chemicals that cause the pain. Migraine meds target these vessels. Often you'll get a "prodrome" (sp?) symptom of little flashing lights in your vision or black spots on one side of your vision. Migraine can also cause nausea. Your doctor should be able to diagnose this. Caffeine can help by keeping the blood vessels from dilating. Guess that's why it's always helped me.
I really hope you get some help soon as these can be totally debilitating.
Shalom
