oxycodone10mg

I was curious..how can 1 10mg of oxycodone be stronger and work much better than 2 5mg's of oxycodone? I would think they're the same

This is a good question! It is good, because you clearly experienced one "10" being stronger than two "5's."

Here's the answer: they are absolutely, totally 100% identical.

Your logic, and your hunch is correct: they are really the same. Two half-full glasses of orange juice are identical to one full glass.

Now the question is WHY did you experience the difference. Here are some good reasons, one or more (or none) of these may be possible:

1.) Your own constitution; you may have had a high-fat meal prior to the injestion of oxycodone (fats, foods, other medicines, etc., may delay or speed up the onset -- and duration, too! -- of medications.
2.) The generic manufacturer may have produced a pill with slightly more or less oxy in one but not the other (generics have to, by law, come d**n close to milligram requirments, but if one were slightly higher, and one were slightly lower, and you're really sensitive, you might have noticed a difference.
3.) Your tolerance can change throughout the day! I personally have taken a pain pill and felt NOTHING. But then, the next time I take the exact, same pill, I'm like "oh my god this is too strong I feel sick and green to the gills and I don't ever want to take another pain pill again the rest of my life."

Some will say "oh it's a placbo effect because the 10mg 'looks stronger' than the two 5mg tablets." Well, nobody likes to 'admit' they've been fooled by the placebo effect, so we won't go there - LOL - but that could be the 4th reason.

The difference is the Tylenol, other than that the "oxycodone" part is the same.

Well I should say that the difference "could" be the Tylenol, if its that kind of pill. But BetterGetBetter gives excellent advice, even though he seems to downplay his knowledge. 8-)

Also, because generics can be up to 5% off of 100% and its still acceptable.

your 10mg most likely was a better generic then your two 5mg ones.

Actually, generics HAVE to have the same amount of of the active ingredient, its the inactive ingredients (fillers, dye's, etc.) that can vary +/- 20%, which can cause different issues for different people.

Thank you Trixy -- I've heard that wrong information passed around here over and over.

The active substance, oxycodone hydrochloride, has to be exact to acquire a USP certification as a generic. Otherwise, it ain't a generic.

As for 10mg pill feeling stronger than the 2 x 5mg pill, it could very well be the fillers in one or the other interfering with metabolism of oxycodone.
