pAIN mANAGEMENT DOCTOR HAS DUMPED ME

I HAVE SPINAL INJURIES, AM A GASTRIC BYPASS PATIENT, FIBROMIAGIA,NUEROPATHY AND THE PAIN MANAGEMENT DOCTOR DOESNT ALWAYS TEST ME FOR DRUGS. BUT THIS LAST TIME THEY DID. I HAVE OCYCODONE, BUT RARELY TAKE IT AS IT MAKES ME SICK TO MY STOMACH. I HAVE TRAMADOL FOR THE FIBRO AS I CAN NO TAKE MANY OF THE MORE POPULAR MEDS LIKE LYRICA FOR THE FIBRO. 3 MONTHS AGO I DECIDED TO TRY CBD OIL FOR PAIN, IT WORKS VERY WELL TO HELP ME WITH DAILY PAIN. I ONLY TAKE IT AT NIGHT TIME BEFORE BED. IT HAS GIVEN ME THE ABILITY TO SLEEP THROUGH THE NIGHT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN YEARS. I STILL HAVE FLARE UPS OF FIBRO, AND WHEN I DO I TAKE THE TRAMADOL. IT WORKS FAIRLY WELL IF I ALSO DO THE HOT WATER THERAPHY. ANYWAY I GUESS PAIN MANAGEMENT DOESN;T WANT TO REFILL MY TRAMADOL PERSCRIPTION BECAUSE THEY SAY I TESTED POSITIVE FOR THC WITH THE URINE TEST! I DONT SMOKE ANYTHING, AND IN FACT DONT EVEN LIKE THE SMELL OF MARAJAUNA! BUT CBD IS VERY MUCH IMPROVING MY LIFE. WHAT DO I DO NOW, MY PRIMARY CARE DOCTOR JUST RETIRED, SO I HAVE NONE, MY PAIN MANAGEMENT DOCTOR HAS SENT A CERTIFIED LETTER SAYING IM OUT, HE ALSO TOOK CARE OF MY SPINAL PROCEDURES FOR PAIN, INJECTIONS AND CAUTHERIZATIONS FOR SIATICA. WHAT DO I DO NOW?

Hi there.  I sympathize with your dilemma. When pain takes over, it is necessary to find a solution.  As you are disabled, and I'm guessing not yet on Medicare, I believe you stand a good chance of getting help.

Step one is to get a primary physician.  Your medical history can be discussed, and see where you go from there..

At 80 I hava various pain issues, and no primary either.  Specialists are what I use, although I will be seeing a primary on Monday.  When I last visited my pain doctor, he explained the restrictions of Medicare regulations.  Basic concerns are overmedication, contraindications of various medications, and...my favorite....dizziness.

Your doctor may have had little choice, with a negative test result.  So maybe instead of feeling dumped, understand that our doctors often have no control.  I would see if a new primary could explain why your test showed THC when there was no cause.

Not sure if you live in a small or large town.  My bias is toward large towns, as you have more options.  And often more skilled, experienced doctors in all fields.

Know you are not alone.  I have several friends who face pain and the bias against certain drugs that relieve pain.

Best wishes finding a new doctor.

You received great advice from the above poster. I'm so sorry this happened to you. It's happening to more and more people these days because Drs are so scared. The urine tests are not perfect so it would have been nice if your Dr would have called you in for another test, maybe with a different lab.Unfortunately they do not have to do this. If you fail a test it's probably in your contract that you can be dropped right away.
I recommend you get started on things today. You will need to find a new primary Dr. who can hopefully help you find another pain Dr. Primary Drs usually have no problem prescribing Tramadol because it's not an opiod. It all depends on the Dr and where you live though.
I really am so sorry this happened to you. It's sad and it's unfair. Check your insurance to see which primary Drs are on the list so you get an appointment.
