pain alters brain chemistry

I have heard that when pain reaches a certain degree, the chemistry of the brain is altered not only in how pain is processed but our moods, thought process, ability to do the very basic of functions.I believe that unless the total person is treated physicians overlook the relevance of treatment for a person living with chronic pain.Does anyone else consider this to make a difference when a doctor decides on a treatment plan?

it is very hard to be on the receiving side with such incompetence telling you that nothing is wrong when they are your second or third opinion .thanks for taking time to respond.I'm retired military, medical, old ARMY.I always believed unless the whole of anything is dealt with something gets overlooked.I believe too many physicians tend to use shortcuts and miss so many underlying illnesses that could alleviate suffering.because I'm OCD when it comes to patient care,I get very angry with incompetence

I consider it and you consider it, but we can't be sure about anyone else. You are very observant. Some good reading on this subject can be found at "The International Association for the Study of Pain's". Good reading, jd1963!
