It’s rather unlikely that they will increase the dosage. Are you taking 80 mg in total , in split doses or or are you taking 80 mg once or more per day?
Most PM doctors are currently keeping patients below 90 mg ME (morphine equivalent) doses, and while I don’t know how long you have been at your current dose, 80 mg of OxyContin is a rather high dose these days.
Pain management is about managing pain to allow you to perform most activities of daily living while keeping the opiate levels as low as possible, and incorporating other types of medications, treatments and therapies to reduce pain further and keep it at manageable levels.
Opiates aren’t meant to eliminate pain, rather reduce the level of pain to a tolerable level.
In dealing with chronic pain, most of us will never experience pain free, and it is helpful to develop other methods of coping with the pain as well as the medications.
