please help me

for the last year and a half I have been on c2 scripts including morphineER100mg 4 times a day.  also oxycodone 60mg every 4 hours for break through pain.  I am not early.  I asked almost two weeks ago for my request, but the office ran out of triple script pads.  They finally got them in today and they won't fill for me because my particular doc is not in.  However, the full time doc is in, he also owns the business and is the office manager.  I have seen him once or twice in office.  I am now in withdrawals.  Don't partners write scripts for each other?? Especially when this is bordering neglect.  If he refuses, I will have to wait 2 more days atleast and be in full withdrawals.  Who besides AMA do I report this to??  I also have recently seen my orthopedic doc who called yesterday to ask why I was not getting my meds and they assured him I would have it yesterday, so he is not responsible, but was assured of my getting my meds and I am not it looks like.  Please respond admin. and anyone else who would have the answer.  Thanks in advance.

good to hear from you my old friend.  You are right on, but his partner was non budging and simply would not do anything to help me.  I will talk to my doc.  I would not want to report him.  He has been there for me through some serious pain.  It's his partner, the owner, manager, and full time doc who would not help when the scripts finally came in.  It was catastrophic, and I will discuss a plan with my doc.  How are you these days Tuck?

Thanks for your answers.  You truly know what I went through for days, but I also threw up and could not keep anything down, became hypokalemic and ended up in ER, they gave me some regular 5 mg hydrocodone/ apap 5oomg, and they stabilized me, but when I got home and awoke gasping for air in the am I could not keep any of them down.  The partner never helped.  My own doc finally came through, but at great cost to my health.  I do not understand these docs.

I so understand what you are going through. That happened to me years ago. I went in to a doctor visit and the partner had to fill in for him. He would not prescribe what I usually take but gave me a script for Methadone instead. I was fortunate enough to not have to go through withdrawals and was forced to take the Methadone due to my regular doctor being out of town for over a month for personal emergency reasons. That really ***** that you are going through this. Maybe you could go to the ER and show them your scripts and tell them what's going on. I have had to do that as well years ago when I moved and could not get into the doctor's office soon enough. I was on the Fentanyl patch and waited a few days after I should have replaced the patch. That is when the wd's set in. The ER gave me a new patch, but only one. Thankfully I was able to get in to see the doctor soon after that.
Wd's are horrible and would never want to go through them. It literally feels like you want to die and stay in the fetal position for several days, except for the RLS won't let you. I can remember being up in the middle of the night pacing back and forth all night because the muscles in your legs have to be in motion. It's awful, not to mention not sleeping or eating and the horrible other symptoms you get. I have found easier ways to deal with them when I have had to come off my meds before two surgeries I have had in the last 3 years. There are meds out there that help profoundly with wd's. The PM doc should be aware of this and hopefully you can ask if he could possibly prescribe something to help until you get in to see your normal doc.

Hi Shanna,

It's good to hear from you again.....but not under these circumstances. I am so VERY SORRY to hear about your inability to obtain your medications. This is horrid! My heart goes out to you.

I think the AMA is the right choice. They may offer additional suggestions. I believe you may also contact your state medical licensing board.

The important thing to do is to see that this never happens again. Discuss with your prescribing physician how this can be avoided in the future. Unfortunately not all partners are so kind as to cover for their colleagues in their absence. You would think they would but I have seen the same in non-opiate prescriptions. I am uncertain exactly where the law stands on this issue. I think the partner normally covers...but not necessarily and less and less will they cover then on opiate prescriptions.

You are on some pretty significant doses and the partner may not have felt comfortable ordering them...this I understand but you would think he could have at least ordered a few days until your regular physician returned. I am so very sorry this happened to you. Please let us know how this turns out.

As I said earlier please discuss this with your physician when he returns to make steps to see that this situation does not repeat itself.

My Best to You,
~Tuck
