Hi there, sounds like everyone has gave you great information. I too totally agree. I realize you probably already know this from all the good information from the community, but I would just like to reinerate that as long if you only have (1) Doctor that wrote both  controlled prescriptions you will be just fine.  Please remember I'm no Dr., and don't have all the answers, but with that said I like to give healthy opinions.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  One opinion I have when patiants get prescribed both  Vicoden, and Percocet together at the same time is that its important to keep in mind the following:   Acetaminophen- generic for (Tylenol) is the compound mixed in both Vicoden, and Percocet. I say this because a long time ago I also was being prescibed the same 2 medications. Last I checked in the USA. we don't have an option to get Hydrocodone- generic for (Vicoden) in its single compound form without the Tylenol mixed in with it. On the other hand your 2nd  prescription  Pecocet does come with the "option" to be prescribed without the Tylenol in it.  It is called Oxycodone IR with multiple varieties of mg. choices                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               My point to all the obove info to you is that I don't know your Health situation, and or your Health history, but I got the percocet changed to the oxycodone instint release, because my daily dosages of  Vicoden, and  Percocet  just had me taking way to much Tylenol with both scripts taken together.  The excess Acetaminophen was causing my Liver emzymes to elevate, and at that time years ago I was giong to be taking both medications together for a long period of time. It was imparative for me to take as less Tylenol as possible. Once I did this the drop in toxins really made a big difference in how I had my daily energy increased, and I no longer felt slugish, and my Liver emzymes went back to normal. Please remember this is just my opinion based on my Health condition at that time years ago in my life.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          We are all different in our Health situations, and I realize that what is important in my Health situation might be of no merit to others. I just thought I would throw this bit of information out there to you, because maybe in the future it might be of some use?, As long as you keep  in good  contact  with  your  Dr.       I'm sure you will be just fine.  (No worries)  "I wish you the best of Health always". Take care. Sincerely,  Paingotago

I've never had a problem with getting something filled if it's a different medication or a different dosage of the same medication, whether it's the milligrams or the directions (going to 4 times a day rather than 3, for example.)

I was switched from vicodin to percocet. I didn't have a problem getting the prescription filled. long as it's from the same doctor. It's a different medication. You can even have a presciption filled in the same month if there is a change in the mg.

Your pharmacist will probably call the prescribing physician and get approval.  The other question will be whether your insurance will cover it.  I'm assuming you're just switching because the Vicodin didn't work well for you, not doubling up ;)

I think sometimes they ask you to turn in the previous prescription.  I've heard of that, I've never had to do it.

Depends.  If it's from the same doctor who is switching you to vicodin, then you shouldn't have a problem.  If you're talking about two ongoing prescriptions from different doctors, you could eventually have trouble.  Since each state governs narcotic prescriptions a bit differently, your best bet is to talk to your pharmacist.
