Yes Kitty you just have to laugh. How else can CP sufferers make it day to day??? Physicians, Pharmacist and other medical providers that make it so tough on us maybe deserve our "crabby" attitude(s). So Kitty maybe a little "crabby" at them couldn't hurt...LOL
We do have many OTC medications available to us in the USA but never a narcotic, even one as mild as codeine. It's the USA's "War on Drugs." Their winning, we're losing!!! I've been lucky, only one pharmacist has been rude to me. But than I think it makes a difference if you find a good pharmacy and can stick with them.
And in the US you can be charged for doctor shopping if you obtain multiple pain prescriptions from multiple physicians; even if you were referred to all of them by your PCP and they are searching for a diagnosis. Go figure???
Keep laughing, it helps.
you go the gp he prescribes something, then you go a specialist and get something else ,and then they look at ya as if your doctor hopping.Ah forget it !! I get so crabby about this. ya just gotta laugh dont ya ?? Well dont ya ?? LOL
JM I saw pain meds in the supermarket and other things that are not over the counnter here, but are in ILLINOIS i couldnt believe it,some of it is pretty poewrful stuff and anybody can just put it through the checkout with their regular shopping!!
I know all to well about being harassed by the pharmacist. I have lupus, colitis and rhuemetoid arthritis. I am on so many drugs is awful but i have been on them all for awhile but for insurance reasons i switched pharmacies and from day 1 they have given me a hard time about my pain medication they even went to the point of calling my doctor and telling him they thought that his was not prescribing my pain meds correctly.. grrrrr so everytime i go in to pickup my refills they always have a comment for me. Frankly as far as I am concerned it is really none of their business as long as everything i am doing and taking is legal and by the book. I find it so stressful whenever i have to pick up my prescriptions and with all my problems stress causes flares ups so they certainly aren't helping my health at all my these comments.
My wife suffers from a number of ailments and has received meds from a variety of doctors...from one of the most well respected eye doctors in Boston, to her PCP, to her denist, etc..(pain meds)...one night after a visit to the ER (around 2AM) she was prescribed vicodin and was given the 3rd degree by the pharmacist. I can almost understand...him looking at the computer and seeing all these different doctors, what with all the paranoia around, but I don't believe she needed to be treated like a common criminal and grilled about each doctor who has prescribed her pain meds..
Jim
wonder why the United States dont have laws wwere you could buy a mild pain releiver with codeine in it over the counter??
Good for you! There are TOO many places we can spend our money then to have to put up with the bs they dish out! We are spending our hard earned money and giving them business so you would think they would be happy we chose them to do business with!
Some stuff like antihisamines and stuff with codine you have to show your drivers lisense to get it,If i go to a chemist shop that know me theres no problem.I was interstate and run out of polaramine, they put me through the third degree so i cracked it and walked out and told him to shove it nicely and i went elsewhere.Glad that i dont live in queensland anymore.
Your looks or how you choose to dress should not give them the right to refuse you! Heck how many millionares and genius' in the past years dressed and lived below their means. Many! You are a human being a cusomer and you deserve respect no matter what you decide to wear or how you choose to present yourself. It is well known that you have a much better chance at getting pain medicine when you are dressed to the nines and look like you have money. WHY? They assume because you have money you won't sell your meds. This is absurd! I am not rich but am well off and I dress the way I want to. In the past when I was first starting out in this pain adventure I found myself dressing up and wearing only the finest to go to the doctor , now I wear what I am comfortable in so I played the game long ago.
People assume that because you choose to dress a certain way that your a druggie o even a drug dealer but clothes are simply fabric that covers our bodies and not who we are. Style is what you choose to wear and NOT who you are.
If you think about it though I guess we are all a little guilty of this. We expect our docs to dress a certain way as well as our bank manager and so on. What would you think if we seen our doc come in with complete lether head to toe? What a sight uh:) We would question him if only for a second. But that does not make it right.
I am careful not to judge people on their looks or what they wear but on the individual.
I hope you did get the medication you needed!
Heck, I asked for some panadeine extra (a 15mg codeine + 500mg acetaminophen tablet, only 12 in a pack) only yesterday at a city pharmacy, and I was given the third degree *and* refused. They are behind the counter but not prescription. The backpack must've made me look like a druggie :-( I didn't bother arguing, it is too common to waste the effort.
In the years I have been taking pain medications I have met many that do.
They are suppossed to be medical professinals but there are some bad ones just as there are in any profession.
i havent had the pharmicist do that but i have had clerks in the store say something to me before
