stomach problem

hi i have a question . I rently found out why i have been in pain for 10 years . My stomach and part of my bowel is up under my left ribcage area and i dont know what that is called , but i guess they can only operate in order to fix it. Is this a serious condition or can it stay that way without problems? Please help me if anyone has heard of this. What i should do about this? thanks lisa

Hi Lisa

Sorry for such a late response.....but it sounds like you could have a tear or hernia in your diaphragm muscle, which means your insides can push up into your ribcage/lung area.....

Surgery CAN fix this! I really hope that you've found some answers and relief after 10 agonising long years!

God Bless

Hello Lisalovesall,

Welcome to the Pain Mangement Forum. I am glad that you found us and took the time to post. Ten years is a long time to be in chronic pain. I am sorry that you have had to face the challenges that the journey brings.

I am trying to understand your post a bit better. I apologize that I am a bit unclear.  Do you mean that you have had this chronic pain for ten years because of the movement of your stomach and intestine or is this a new occurrence?

And questions about your diagnosis. By your description it sounds like some type of herniation. Maybe an abdominal-wall hernia? Is that correct?

Hernia's can be life threatening. The actual hernia is not the major concern however  nearly all have a potential risk of causing strangulation of an organ. Strangulation means having blood supply cut off to a portion of your internal organs such as you intestine. When this happens the tissues becomes neurotic from lack of oxygen and nourishment and dies. Than it becomes is a serious medical emergency.

If you have a hernia observe closely for signs of strangulation. Depending on the type will determine the likelihood of developing a strangulation. Usually uncompromised hernias are not painful. However if you have a hernia and an area suddenly become painful with increased tenderness and irreducible (won't return to normal position) lump or swelling, it's possible you may have an irreducible hernia. This requires immediate medical attention in an ER. Death of an organ can begin in as little as six hours.

I hope this has been helpful. I am far from a medical expert and hope I understood your post. If you can provide us with more information we may be able to offer better suggestions.

I encourage you to continue to do exactly what you are doing, educate yourself in your diagnosis, Weight the pros and cons of the procedures being offered before making an educated and informed decision.

I will look forward to your updates and hope that you will keep in touch. Please also consider being active in our community. Our members are very supportive and offer good information and suggestions. I hope that you have joined us and will participate in our community support system. Best of luck in your search for answers.

Take Care,
~Tuck

Hi lisa,

I want to welcome you to the Pain Management Forum and let you know that we are glad that you have found this Forum.  I need to let you know that there are NO Doctors on this Forum only CP (Chronic Pain) Patients that help each through their own experiences and expertise they have gained through teir own pain coditions.

I'm VERY sorry to hear about what you are going thru. I'm not familiar with your particular condition but you need to talk with your Doctor and ask him about this condition.

How did you find out about this? I'm assuming that your Doctor must have diagnosed it. Did he not tell you anything at all about what to expect and whether or not you could go without the surgery?

You REALLY need to go back and talk with him.

I wish you the  VERY best and I hope that you will keep us u[pdated as to what you find out from your Doctor.....Sherry
