8 year old shows no emotion and is defiant

8 yo AA female who is in the care of maternal grandmother after mother continues to abuse drugs. She has two younger siblings 4 and 18mo. She talks back, refuses to do what is asked of her and even if someone is hurt she shows no emotion. Some have diagnosed her with Mood Disorder NOS and ODD, but I was wondering if there could be some sort of personality disorder because of the lack of emotion (affact).

Often BPD - Borderline Personality Disorder - is misdiagnosed as ADHD or ODD as well as some of the mood and/or anxiety disorders (sometimes more than one) in children.  Most medical personnel are reluctant to diagnose presonality disorders until adulthood.  One major "symptom" of personality disorders is the extreme self-centeredness of the person - often driven by jealously and very little to no empathy.  From your posting, do you suspect one of the disorders?

What were the first 18 months of her life like,  do you know?  It sounds possible she was completely neglected during that time and hasn't formed any bonds with anyone - "reactive attachment disorder".
