Yes! For the same reason above. My daughter got her period early. She leaked through her pants at school. She doesn’t like to ask to go to the bathroom because she is dyslexic and can’t tell time which needs to be written on the sign out sheet. I had to get permission from the principal and teachers for her to leave the time blank and reassure her she can ask to go to the bathroom at any time. I knew a kid who couldn’t go to the bathroom when there was anyone else in the bathroom. He would wait until it was empty then go. Because he took so long, the teacher told him to wait until recess. He peed his pants the class before recess. If a kid is asking too often or taking too much time, etc, ask the nurse to speak to them, never deprive a child of needing to go to the bathroom.
Yes I would ABSOLUTELY have a problem with it. Some girls start their periods in 4th grade, I had a teacher that didn't let me go pee when I had to go and I got UTIs all that year and yeast infections after the antibiotics were done. It makes you a bad teacher and human. Control freak.
It depends- have you given them plenty of time to use the restroom at other times? Are you withholding water so they don't have to go? Will you make exceptions when a child really has to go?
In general, when one kid has to use the bathroom- I know it 'catches' and the rest of them do- it can cause a big distraction, but we also don't want to teach out kids that they shouldn't be listening to their bodies and taking care of things when they come up- like needing to use the restroom.
If you can have the rule, but you are understanding of exceptions, I'd be ok with it- if not, I'd worry about other consequences for my child- maybe they will miss a few minutes of the lesson by going, but a UTI, fear of asking for the restroom, or not being able to stay hydrated are worse than the distraction.
