Playing with Medication

My 9 yr old daughter is highly intelligent, spirited, creative, etc. - a lot of energy going on in her head, but generally no behavioral problems.  Since she was a young child, she has had a fascination with experimenting with soaps, toothpaste, shampoos, lotions, etc. -- bathroom-type products.  She has put them in her hair, mixed them together in potions, etc.  We caught her doing this enough (after a suitable punishment) that I removed all such products from her bathroom and her reach, and only brought them out with a parent present during bath time, brushing teeth, etc.   Recently I discovered that she had entered my bathroom, and taken down child-friendly medications and "experimented" with those.  She was upset, but did admit that she had ingested some.  I find this extremely concerning -- feel like I can't be too careful but (1) I don't want to overreact, which itself can send a message that I do not intend and (2) I would like to appeal to her intelligence to find a suitable punishment that is productive and not just painful.  Any thoughts or advice you have would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

The answer is so simple - buy yourself a small safe, and keep the medicines in there.  They are slightly larger than a big book, and are very secure.  They are sold at Home Depot, Walmart, and so on.

Lock all meds even OTC ones away altogether , so she cannot get them or lock your bathroom, . At her age taking away a privilege will work most times, something she enjoys, TV, The computer, a game...
