Foot Injury

Yesterday, my almost three year old jumped off the couch and immediately started crying and saying his foot hurt. He was limping around for the rest of the morning. I took him to see the LPN in the afternoon as his ped is off Mondays. She ordered X-rays of his whole left leg which were negative. She advised that I give him Ibuprofen but I explained he cannot have it becuase he has surgery next week (unrelated). So Tylenol is it. She mentioned possibly a pulled muscle.

Today his foot and the limping are NO better. He still also complains that his foot hurts. Any thoughts on this? Anyone have a similar injury? Should I take him back in? Wait another day? Thanks for your opinions!

Ha, I know.  What is it with kids and jumping on furniture???  My boys try to do the same.  We have a mini trampline in the same room for crying out loud.  Oh well, it never hurts to try with the teaching moments. :>)

Hope he feels better soon!  Let us know how it goes.

We most definately used it as a teaching moment, also for his brothers. I scincerly doubt that there will be no more furniture jumping anymore though! ;-)

Thanks, I'll give him to tomorrow and see if he improves.

I'd wait one more day.  They've x rayed him, right?  They did an x ra of the foot, correct?  If he had a hair line fracture-----  they'd have seen it most likely.  There are a lot of little bones in the foot.  I had a hair line fracture of the foot that healed on its own.  Some are more serious.  But they'd have been looking for that.

Is he swollen?  You'd think sprain too but you'd notice swelling.

I'd say he just hurt it and it isn't back to normal yet.  Give it another day and if you are seeing no improvement, then call the doc.

Also, side note. These are those teachable moments.  "Son, do you see why jumping off the couch is a bad idea??"  Gotta look for the benefits of these unfortunate things, right?  Maybe he won't repeat the furniture jumping.

good luck and I hope he is better soon!!
