ferber method

my 9 month old son has been sleeping thru the night since he was 8 weeks old. i tried the ferber method a long time ago but it really didnt work. i rock him and he does go to sleep. he is now teething and sometimes wakes in the night for me. he is not the type of baby to put himself back to sleep 100% of the time. a friend told me to once again try the ferber method. i personally do not wish to hear my child scream out for the time that he is in his crib. the only way he is able to communicate w me is thru crying. is this method necessary? i was told by abother friend to try it when he is able to understand what i am trying to do. am i wrong for not wanting to torture my child this way

I totaly agree with you.I rocked everyone of my kids,I have three. They are only little for a very short time and when you rock your child to sleep or lay down with them it gives them sacurity. My youngest is four and alot of the time I will lay down with him for two or three minutes and he is out.I dont agree with the ferber method I personaly think that its kinda harsh. its way easier to take five or ten minutes and show your child some comfort and snuggling then it is to make them lay in a bed by themselves and cry to sleep.(They are only little for a short time).
