It's not likely to be stress related, because she has had this problem, no doubt before you got the bad news.

If she likes soups and jellies, that is another way of getting her to get fluids.  Water is best, but most children prefer diluted drinks.  Find a drink that she likes.

Hi there,

Thanks for your reply  she doesnt drink nearly enough and im forever nagging at her to drink but short of holding her down its hard to make her drink... her bowels are ok she goes every other day but always has done since little we have recently had a series of blood tests and scans and urine tests for abdo pain came back clear ( well recently  within last 6 months)  we have recently had some bad news regarding a close family member ( stage 4 pancreatic cancer with liver secondaries)  and i am wondering if its something stress related ..I am pushing fluids and reminding her to go to the toilet if this doesnt resolve i will make an appointment at gp

If your daughter is not passing any urine or very little urine, it is highly likely that she is dehydrated.

Is she drinking enough fluids throughout the day and eating fruit?  If she doesn't take enough fluids, then she won't have much to pass.

As she has complained of tummy pain, this actually may be pain in the bladder.  If she is holding her urine and there is not much in the bladder, it is also likely that she may have an infection.

Are her bowel movements OK?  Just something for you to think about too.

Make an urgent appointment for her to see the doctor.  The doctor needs to examine her tummy and her urine (if you can get her to do some into a clean jar).

Let me know how you get on.
