white spots on Cornea

My fourteen year old was told she had white spots on the upper part of her cornea.  The doctor told us it could possibly be herpetic eye disease.  She has had a partial pink right eye in which her primary care physician treated as pink eye.  She as no pain, no discharge, no swelling.  The eye was getting pink on the lower half  since the end of December.  It  has since gone away. After looking up possible diagnosis on the internet, it does not show white spots as part of the above-mentioned conditions.  What causes the white spots.
