Faluire to Thrive

So my little one has been diagnosed with this.
A little background info he was eating 25-30 oz of breast milk at first and then he was introduced to formula. He still had 30 oz of formula out of no were he started eating 22, 20 then 18 till on Sunday he had 13.5 oz. That's when I said it was enough and we took him to the ER that day he had 16.5 oz and the following day he had 22 then he went back down to 16. Now he is getting about 24 oz daily but dr wants him to strongly be at 30 oz. While we were at the hospital I got to speak to a feeding team, lactation consultant and dietitian and they came to the conclusion that he wasn't having enough calories even with formula in his diet. We now have to make a 24 calorie formula.Anyways he will be five months on the 27 and he is weighing roughly about 13 lb 5 oz when the Drs want him to be at 20-25 lbs. All test came back normal and they don't think he has any other underlying conditions that may be causing him to not gain properly. He isn't loosing any weight but is gaining slowly.
I read the definition of "failure to thrive" and quite honestly I don't think my son fits the description besides the weight. He is a happy baby 99% of the time, hardly ever fusses or cries. All his physical and activities are on point with kids his age.

Have any other moms gone through the same and their babies caught up in the end?

Your doctor wants your son to weigh 20lbs at 5 months!? That's ridiculous!  Mine didn't hit 20lbs till he was roughly 10 months old. Honey your baby's sounds like he's at a good weight! Just keep a good eye on him! You could always start the rice cereal. When my son started eating less formula that's what his doctor said. And he picked right back up on his bottles! We also had a bottle war at 6 months. Hes been drinking from a sippy ever since.

My son weighed 13.5 at his 6 month checkup. My dr said he was a little low on weight but she thinks there is nothing to worry about. We go Monday for a weight check . He eats good and is happy most of the time and constantly moving. We can't keep him still. I think he just burns off everything he eats. I think your baby is fine. 20 pound for a 5-6 month old sounds over weight to me.

My son is 12 months and weighs 20lbs. At 5 months my son was between 16-17 lbs. which is a completely normal weight for a baby of that age.
When my son was born he was 6 lbs 9 oz. when we left hospital he lost a bit and was barely 5lbs.
My son is in the 30th percentile for weight, but he is healthy and happy. The paediatrician says there is nothing to worry about :)
My son goes thru periods of time that he doesn't drink much either, but makes up for it other days.
