My Introduction

Hi.  My name is bridgette and I've been a member of MH for over 2 years now.  DH and I TTC'd for 3+ years with a loss in Aug of 2008.  I have been  running another group for almost a year now of women who are TTC after a Loss.

In April of 2010 DH and I did an IUI and got our BFP on May 1st!  I'm a pretty plump lady at 5' 1" and 180 pounds.  I'd love to meet other ladies and share our resources as to the whole experience of navigating a pregnancy while being plus-sized.

Welcome to the group!

Welcome to the group Emma!  I'm sorry about your loss :(  There are quite a few ladies here who have also had losses, although not so late in a pg.  I'm sure that must have been beyond devastating.  Good luck on your TTC!  SSBD!!

Love, love, love this group!!!   So glad I can finally feel like someone out there will be able to relate and maybe not quite so embarrased to share my own experiences.
My name is Tammy, I am 30yrs old, now 17wks pregnant with my 3rd child after 3 1/2yrs of ttc.  I am 5'5" and started out at 205lbs. At 16wks when I saw the actual ob for the first time (she was on holidays for 4wks so I couldn't see her any sooner) I was 215lbs....yah I had gained 10lbs already (yikes).  My ob was not impressed and told me she expects me to not gain any more than 15lbs total from beginning to end. I don't know how but my weight has now gone down to 208...no I'm not starving myself.  I had been on bedrest due to bleeding and cramping for some time and also had quit smoking so I'm sure the inactivity along with the extra nibbling is was did me in.   Have been feeling like myself again this past wk, not tired all the time and much more active again.  So hoping the weight gain can steady out...15lbs though I don't know but I think that's going to be hard.   My bp was 146/78 so not so good...kind of backwards I figured since I quit smoking it should have gotten better...it's usually 135/80.      My first preg was smooth as could be and my weight after delivering was less than I started out with. My second preg I had started out at 220lbs had to have surgery at 4mths to remove very lg cysts, gained nearly 40lbs and had hbp that I was on pills for.  This one isn't off to a very good start, it's so so stressful, also have 2 cysts 5cm and 3cm that are being watched and hopefully won't start to grow quickly as they did with my las.  I just wish I had used the past 3 1/2 yrs to get myself good and healthy and maybe I would have less to worry about.  Funny how I'm so much more scared this pregnancy than I was my first at 20yrs old.
Best wishes to you all, so glad to have found you all on here:)

Hey Bridgette...thanks for starting this group! :)  I started my pregnancy at about the same weight as you...and I just posted on your other question about the baby bump...sounds like you are "showing" just like I did.  It's frustrating at first but you will get there!!

Hi Ladies,

My name is Lisa and I am 5'10" and was 248 before I got pregnant.  I am now at 258 and I am only around 6 to 8 weeks pregnant.  I don't know for sure how far along I am because I don't see a Dr. to get an u/s until Aug 6th and my cycles are so irregular that there is really no telling.  I have cycles from 27 days to 43 days so really not sure when I got pregnant.  I am not sure why I have gained so much weight already since I actully have been eating the same as I used to, maybe a little less and am more active now.  I have actually increased my excercising since I found out I was pregnant in hopes that it helps to prevent some problems we face being overweight and pregnant.

I had been trying to get pregnant for 9 months and was told I was too fat to get pregnant by my doctor.  He actually said you need to starve yourself to lose weight and that anytime I would eat something I needed to ask myself if I would rather eat this or get pregnant.  Needless to say, I cried my eyes out and have not returned to that doctor.  But here I am now, pregnant.  I also have mild Hypothyroidism and doctors won't treat me for that either since it is mild and not at a level they feel needs treatment.

I am really glad this forum was created and look forward to talking more with all of you ladies.

Hello to all you ladies and I am happy there is a forum like this.

My name is Angela and I am 5'7 and 234lbs. I had 5 m/c before my first son and 1 in between my sons. I am now 8wks pg with another and am praying to carry. I also have diabetes, PCOS, hypothyroidism, and for some reason my heart rate races so I was on meds to regulate it. I struggled with major problems for a while but did a major change (diet and exercise) and went from 249lbs to 227lbs.

I am gaining so much weight this pg cuz I stay hungry all the time. With my sons they were all baby. I gained 23lbs with my first and 26lbs with my second and lost it all plus some after their birth. So far I am looking to gain more this time and it has me flustered but happy to be pg. Boy or girl...if I carry this lil bean this is my last. Because of complications with the diabetes my lil ones turn out not to be so little. My first son was 3wks early and was 9lbs even. My 2nd was also 3wks early and 10lbs 8oz. Because my 2nd was so big I was severely close to a uterine tear from the stretching of my uterus so docs warning me bout bed rest now.

My main problem is to those who believe heavier women shouldnt get pg. I had an OB getting me ready for a hysterectomy telling me I had a bunch of fibroids and that if I got pg again I would be a nightmare to take care of. I was about to do it but my cousin begged me not to and to give her one yr to keep trying with her (she trying to get pg too and we thought being pg at same time would be nice). I agreed thinking after no protection in 5 1/2 yrs and nothing it was just to appease her. Imagine my surprise! I also get that stereotype that pg women tend to over eat and gain too much weight in pregnancy which is not true. That can happen to any size women and lil stereotypical crud like that makes me glad for a forum like this.

Nice to meet you ladies and I am looking forward to the next 7-9mos with you all!!!

YAY!  I'm so glad you ladies like the group!!  This is my first pregnancy (that has made it this far) and I've had SO many questions and didn't feel like those "skinny minnies" (LOL) could always understand or relate.

Welcome to everybody and can't wait to share the journey!

Hi ladies! What a cute idea for a group...I definitely think that plus-sized and pleasingly plump women need their own support group because we face challenges that "skinny minnies" don't face :). I started out my last pregnancy as a plus-size...but I'm one of those weirdos that loses weight when pregnant, and I am now down several sizes from my pre-pregnancy size (I'm 11 days post-partum from having my healthy little baby boy Grey :) ).

There are DEFINITELY a lot of things that larger women have to deal with that normal women never even consider, and even if you're only a little overweight (Like I was when I was pregnant with my daughter) there are SO many things that it's good to get the advice of someone who can actually relate!

As I said I just gave birth to my baby boy Grey on July 14th and it was an easy and wonderful vaginal delivery...and I have a daughter named Kahlan who is 22 months old and both of my babies are absolutely the light of my life. My husband works hard so I can be a stay-at-home mommy and I'm also a freelance writer/editor. I just turned 25 on July 12th and I've had a LOT of bizarre pregnancy experiences so anyone who has a question that they think might be too bizarre...I promise you, it's not..just ask k10road..I"m the queen of bizarre pregnancy symptoms and complications LOL.

also, to sympathize with every lady here who gained weight with a miscarriage..I miscarried before conceiving my daughter in 2007 and I gained almost 25lbs from the m/c...so I can completely empathize!

---started out last pregnancy wearing 20-22-ish pants and XXL shirts, now wearing 14 pants and L shirts....some shirts still XL because my boobs are 36EE now...yuck...and if you ask me what my weight is I honestly don't know right now I lost somewhere in the neighborhood of 25lbs in the delivery room so I'm not sure what my total is at the moment...but I am 5'2"---

Hi this group is a great idea!

I'm currently 33, 5ft 2in and 180lbs. I was at 145lbs with my 2nd pregnancy but gained a lot of weight...going up to 190 by the time my son was born in June 2008. So in two years I only lost 10 lbs! LOL

I'm now pregnant with #3 and having high blood sugar and high blood pressure. I'm really scared for the baby (having a threatened miscarriage..you can read my jounal post) and even though I am extremely tired all the time I am forcing myslef to work out at least 30-45min a day and I've cut out simple sugars, etc so in a week my blood sugar has come down from 300 to 229 and my blood pressure is 145/93. My OB tells me that I will miscarry but my HCG levels are rising and have lots of people praying and I believe this little guy (just a hunch that it's a boy) will be ok but I have to monitor myself very closely. I feel really bad about this because I had two years to get in shape but after working all day and running after two little ones I just really let myself go. I've always been heavy but now I'm scared because of the health problems.

Congratulations to everyone on their pregancies....I pray for safe pregnancies and healthy babies for all of you.

Hi everyone,
I'm so glad to see more and more people joining. I agree us bigger girls have to watch more then others when pregnant. I'm looking forward to sharing this journey with all of you.

I'm Lisa, and im expecting my 3rd child. This is my 4th pregnancy as we had a loss 4/2010 and im hoping this pregnancy has a happy ending. I'm starting this pregnancy at me heaviest weight ever which is about 265. I was about 30lbs lighter last october but since then i have lost my job and had out loss. Even though i weigh that much at 5'6" i wear size 18/20 but scared i wont be able to find clothes if needed.

Congrats to everyone expecting

Hey all!  Great idea for a group!!!  As pleasingly plump women, we often have different pregnancies in the sense that we have to watch ourselves a little more (sugar, blood pressure, etc.).  It's nice to be able to share our trials, tribulations, joys and whatnots together!

I'm Kristen, and I am expecting my 3rd baby.  I have had 3 miscarriages in the last year, so I am hoping this one goes better!  Like Sam_Kile, my weight fluctuates.  I go from a plus sized woman (have been up to 180 at 5'2") to a petite woman (in the 120's) pretty regularly.  I am also an athletic build, but that doesn't make it any easier to keep the weight off.  Just in October, I was 130 and a size 4, and I started this pregnancy at 160 in April at about a size 10.  So in 6 months, I gained 30 lbs (I did have 2 miscarriages in that time that I like to blame it on).  I HATE the weight struggle.

Congrats to those who are expecting, and SSSSSSSSSSSBD to those who will be expecting soon (Jenn :-).  I look forward to sharing this journey with you ladies!

Hey ladies I think this group is a great idea!!! I am not a skinny girl by any means but not plus size either! I am 5'6" and weighing 141 right now at 14 weeks pregnant! As of now my weight gain is more than recommended by like 5 lbs not that much to worry about until you look at my family. I have a pretty athletic build now but so did the women in my family up until pregnancy. My mom gained a 100 pounds with me and never really lost it. With her extra weight gain she got diabetes and has been struggling with that since. Her severe weight gain made for a really hard pregnancy (she almost didn't make it) and I was really early. All the women in my family are big ladies and most got that way with there first baby. I am struggling to keep my weight and health in order and would love any advise or tips you ladies have found work. Weight has been a struggle for me already I easily gain 20 pounds in a year than struggle/starve for a year to lose it please help. Oh and congrats to everyone on here hope we all have happy healthy pregnancies!
