Can I have children????

Hi Everyone,
I recently was diagnosed with PCOS.  I have had severe acne, thinning of the hair, and some excessive hair growth.  I had a child 2 years ago, and at that time I was not diagnosed with PCOS.  It took my 6 months to conceive him, and with what I know now about PCOS, I think I may have had it back then when I was trying for him.  My question is will I be able to get pregnant again?  I have had no luck when it comes to ovulation, and I am just freaking out because I wanted to be pregnant just one more time and I feel like this could totally put an end that.  Any advice, or similar experiences would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Yes you can get pregnant.  metformin is usually the starting point, it regulates your hormones which helps with your cycle and possibly ovulation.  Then Clomid normally the next step to induce ovulation.  If that doesn't work follicle stimulating drugs like gonal-f or follistim (injections) can do the trick.  If you have you U/S and you have numerous cysts ovarian drilling may also be an option.  It is a laproscopic surgery that "pops" you cysts and helps release androgens (male hormones) and almost immediately returns hormones to normal.  If you have a lot of cysts I would ask for surgery before starting drugs, your more likely to ovulate once the cysts are gone giving yourself the best chance for success.  As for me we tried for 3.5 years which included metformin, 5 rounds of clomid, ovarian drilling and 5 rounds of follistim and IUI.  I am now 32 weeks pregnant with a little girl :).  Also ask for a referral to an RE they can manage your case a lot more appropriately than an OB.  Good luck.

Thanks for telling me about your similar experience.  I have not taken any fertility drugs yet, as I am still waiting for the doctor to actually perscribe me medicine to help control my PCOS symptoms.  I have an ultra sound this coming week, and once those results are in I will be able to get started on medication.  I just have that fear in the back of my head that I will not be able to conceive again... Best of luck to you.  I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Hi, I am in the same situation as you are. However I was diagnosed when I was 14 years old. I have a 2 1/2 year old. We've been TTC#2 for almost two years now. We've tried fert drugs, we've tried natural, but nothing is working thus far. We didn't have any problems getting pregnant with my first. I still have hope that we will have another, it's just proving to harder this time.  Best of luck to you!
