We had 2 crazy Beagles with my first, one did really well & the other was scared of her! My advice would b to allow a adjustment period, & allow them to sniff her. The one that was scared of her actually turned to b the more tolerable of her as she got more moble. We always tried to supervise when the dogs were around her, even the nicest dogs hav limits. And usually thiers signs a dog dog is getting agitated.
Wow. I wouldn't worry at all about your half pit. She will watch over your little one as soon as you bring her home. When I was pregnant with my son (he's 13 now) I had a giant black lab. After his birth he slept outside his room everynight. He was very careful. I would be more concerned about the older dog only in the sense when the baby gets older and tries to love on the older animal. Your older dog might not have the patience for a crawling baby's questing fingers.
They always suggest introducing the baby smells first to kind of deter that smell curiosity. We had a crazy rottie when I was preg with #1. But as I got bigger, he became more attentive and then when we brought our lil girl home, he was super quiet and protective. With two or more dogs, it may be a little more of a challenge in the beginning, but family dogs usually treat babies like their own ;)
Thanks for all the advice. One of my dogs is older but she gets curious and my other one just turned a year and he is half pit... He is mamas baby and must know I'm 39 weeks pregnant because he does not leave my side even when I go to the bathroom and shower. When I shower he jumps in with me!!! LOL I know accidents will happen but just wanted to see what other parents have done.
I have two great danes and a soon to be 4 month old. What we did was my husband brought our baby in and he sat on the floor and let them come over and sniff her. They can be pretty rambunctious but its like they knew they needed to be calm. Even though we trust them accidents happen so we never leave her unattended with the dogs. We also have put a gate up between our living room and dining room so we can keep them out when we have her on the floor.
I would slowly introduce them. I have 3 large dogs. The babies (I'm pregnant with twins) will be slowly introduced one at a time. If the babies will be doing tummy time the dogs will be out outside to avoid any accidents. I'm OK about a few kisses from the dogs.my German Shepard mix already realizes I'm pregnant (I'm almost 11 weeks) and will rarely leave my side now. I do t have any worries about them being as they are great with other children.
How big are the dogs? And I have 2 dogs aswell but mine are smaller. I'm pretty stricked with mine but they are dogs and they could try to jump on or lick the baby so I'd just have them stay away until the baby is a little older or I'd introduce them slowly and if theu try to jumpor something make sure u have a hold on them and let them know that its not ok.
