Age 41- Early Miscarriage

Hello everyone.  My husband and I have an 8 month old daughter and wanted to have a sibling for her.  We bought the OPT and detected the surge and acted on it.  I started having symptoms 4 days before my period was to start.  However, 3 days prior to my period, we had some spotting and cramping which we were sure was the implantation taking place.  Unfortunatley, that turned into severe cramping and bleeding.  The cramping was almost as bad as labor pains and the bleeding was heavy and finally stopped altogether after 6 days.  I've never been through this before.  It was very devistating to us both and leaves you wondering- Why? Did I do something wrong? What can be different next time?  Will there even be another successful pregnancy?  I am breastfeeding our daughter part time, meaning, she is eating solids 2 times a day and having juice as well.  There is plenty of time between feedings.  I've read that it shouldn't be a problem as far as implantation.  I've read a lot of things though.  I just don't understand I guess.  I can hardly stand the deep disappointment we are going through.  I'm not sure if there is something different I should be doing or not.  I know my age plays a factor in it. I do drink soda but it's not every day- only on the days I'm at work which amounts to 10 days a month.  I also take the prenatal vitamins and a B6 vitamin daily.  Since I had an early miscarriage, does that also mean I won't ovulate again for a while or have a period for a while or should everything just resume as usual and we can start trying again and using a OPT?  Any information or advice would be appreciated.

Hi - quit beating yourself up!  Firstly, you dont know for sure that you were pregnant (this could easily just be an off cycle), and secondly, a miscarriage is NOT your fault and in the majority of cases nothing can be done to prevent these.

A standard couple that is actively TTC only has a 25% chance of conceiving in any given month and those odds are much lower as a women over the age of 40.  Keep you head up and dont be surprised if it doesnt happen right away.

First of all I am sorry for your loss.  I have had 2 m/cs so I understand where you are coming from.  Yes, you can have a sucessful pregnancy after a m/c.  No, nothing was your fault you did nothing wrong.  I never got any real answers as to why I had my m/cs. There are so many reasons why you m/c, it could have been anything from low progesterone to genetic issue with the egg  etc. I dont know that bf causes implantation problems because I conceived  my second son whule bf and had no problems.  You will ovulate as soon as your hcg level returns to zero and since yours was a very early m/c  it will probably be within your normal time frame.  You should be able to try again with no problems.  After my second m/c(it was an early one as well) I ovulated right on schedule.  Hope this helps, good luck to you.
