Amnio on Wednesday - any tips ?

Hello,

I'm going in for my amnio Wed. and was wondering what to expect ?  Do they boot you out after they take the sample ? Is it okay to walk around soon after ? Its quite a trek to get out of the hospital so I'm worried that they'll shoo me out right after.  I plan to head home to the sofa - got my two boxes of favourite cookies waiting for me - and the tv....How long do I have to hold my breath for ? How many days/weeks should I be worried about m/cin'g ? Jeez, I'm going to be worried about getting up constantly to  p......Getting more nervous as the day draws closer....taking it out on dh....poor guy......

if you request to have a fish done you can get results quicker.  the norm is about 2 weeks if you dont.  i just know it will all be ok!

Hi had my Amnio done in Nov. it was not bad at all it takes a couples of minutes, they tell you to take it easy for the next 24 hours and lift anything heavy, it usually takes about 7-10 days for you to get your results. Good luck

A little bit of cramping but it goes very fast. And yes, they shoo you out pretty soon after.
I could walk 5 minutes after, had slight cramping and just stayed home on the couch for the day. No sex for 24 hours, no lifting.

The waiting is the worse part....good luck!

Let me just say that the anticiaption leading up to the amnio is worse than the amnio itself.  Mine went with no problems at all.  I just held my husbands hand, tried to stay calm and breathe and just watched the screen so I could see where the needle was and where the baby was.  Just think positive - all wil be fine.  I was home and laying in bed relaxing in no time.

Hi. I had an amnio in November. Because we're having twins & they're in separate sacs, they had to draw fluid twice. I'll admit that it did hurt (actually, the first one hurt. The second one really didn't). I was sent home directly after & felt a bit cramped, but I walked slowly & dh carried my purse ;) Once I got home, it was difficult the first time I used the restroom because my stomach felt cramped. I stayed in bed for a day & then I was fine. I went to work the following day & just took it easy. They'll give you a list of things to look for as possible negative effects, so you'll know what to look for. My advice, just take it easy & think positive :) Best wishes!

when i had my amnio i was there for just a short time after (im a wimp and passed out lol) but the whole process just takes minutes.  you are instructed to not lift anything heavy and take it easy on the couch for 24 hours.  have someone drive you and then pick you up at an easier door at the hospital if possible.

they told me that the first 24 hrs are the most likely for a mc to happen.  dont be too stressed, many women have an amnios and without complications!  good luck!
