Can fetus Heartbeat restart?

My 1st drs. visit was 13/11/10, dr. said i am 6wks. I have had internal ultrasound (at 6 weeks) and everything looked fine and there we saw the heartbeat . I Had second U/S on 14/12/10 and could see gestational sac and fetus but no heartbeat. Dr. said fetus was 8.5wks. I feel fine and have had no spotting, bleeding or cramping. Dr. gave me 3 options, wait and miscarry naturally, have a pill inserted into vagina to speed up the process or d &c .But the main Qes. is -Can fetus Heartbeat restart? is it possible in medical history?

I had one D&C and one miscarriage helped by misoprostone (vaginal pill).  Much preferred the misoprostone, personally.

The baby's heart can't restart after it has stopped.  But there is no harm to do a repeat ultrasound so that you are sure that there really is a loss.

Always get a second opinion before opting to end the pregnancy. There has been news worldwide that many times the tests for the heartbeat are wrong and many people lose unborn babies because of this. My advice is to wait and see and check with another doctor in a different practice just to be safe. I hate to see people terminating healthy pregnancies due to glitches in equipment or false positives on birth defects etc. I hope everything works out in your favor!

No.  I am so sorry.  You will be in my prayers.  You can ask for another US to make sure.

I am so sorry, I just had this happen myself.  HB at 8 wks, no HB at 12 wks.  No, unfortunately, it cannot start again. I would, howvever, insist on a follow-up sono just to be sure before deciding what to do.  I could clearly see on the sono myself that there was no "flicker" of a HB.  :(
Like you, I had no cramps, bleeding, signs of any kind.  I didn't want to at first, but I opted for the d&c.  Had it yesterday, and it wasn't so bad.  The day i found out was much worse. I considered waiting it out, but my midwife told me I may STILL need the d&c, same with the pill, so it made more sense just to go that route in the first place.  Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions.  Again, I am so so sorry, and I understand how you feel. ((hugs))

i am sorry, but there is normally significant development during that period and i have never seen a fetus that far behind and with no detectable heartbeat make it.
my first m/c i also felt fine until my d&c-never had any symptoms at all of a problem.
thankfully most early m/c are a  result of a chormosomal problem with that baby and are generally not a sign that there will be any problems with a future pregnancy.
sorry for your loss, it is devastating
