If you ate them already and are concerned, it is OK, just don't eat them again until after you have the baby!!!
I had the same scare and have two healthy twins....
Just avoid the cold cuts and fish from local waters... If unsure about something.. just say no.. only for a few months then you can enjoy them again.
you would have to eat them in large quantities or raw to really get sick or something...
don't worry, you are fine!
mayo is off because it is made from raw egg and is a Listeria Risk. Same with a lot of cold cuts, cold cooked chicken, soft serve ice cream and soft cheeses. No unpastuerised dairy for the same reason.
Basically, you are fairly safe if is thoroughly cooked & hot (say goodbye to rare steak!). If you cooked it yourself, it should be fine the next day if kept in the fridge... but not the day after.
Listeria presents as a meningitis and can cross the placenta.
Wow My sis n law just told me this too! She is 11 weeks and her Dr just gave her a big list of no, no foods. Mayo is on there, can you believe that!!!!!!!
Tylenol is the best for headaches and preggo ladies.
Yes nitrites are c.r.a.p: they now give me asthma so no hot dogs or bacon or ham for me anymore. Makes sense they would also be bad for a fetus.
Wow, I never heard that hot dogs could be bad. I've been eating all summer :O
Yes, tylenol is about all you can take. Make sure you're drinking enough water too. Dehydration can happen quickly and it will cause bad headaches.
You can take tylenol but do not take ibuprofen!
Thanks for the response, I ate 2 of them before I even thought about it and IDK if they were nitrate free..crap..also i have a killer headache, what can i take thats safe for that..?
What I have heard, is that it is not a good idea to eat hot dogs because most of them have nitrates in them, which are not good for the fetus (same reason why we are supposed to avoid cold cuts). If the hot dogs are nitrate free (some are), then you should be fine. Otherwise, it might be wise to skip them, especially in the first trimester.
