Doctor

My wife has hypothyroid and high level of antibodies; doctors have said that this could be the reason for infertility. She has been taking medicine for antibodies, but nothing seems like working. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

RG

No, my colleague was not tested or diagnosed with either hypothyrodism or antibodies. She took it on the recommendation of her naturopath.

I think her temperature taking was more of a factor in her getting pregnant!

Miranda,

Did she have hypothyrodism and high level of antibody?

Thanks for your update.

I understand that prednisone - a steroid - is prescribed for antinuclear antibodies.

I don't know anything about VITEX.  A colleague of mine started taking it on the advice of her naturopath and she is now pregnant, after a year of trying.  (She also started charting her temps).

Good luck!!

My wife has been taking baby aspirin and low dosage of steroid (prescribed by her doctor, not from the street corner :-)  ), her antibody level did go down, but went back up in a month. I will research VITEX (suggested by 2wonderfulboys).

Just talked to my wife and Hashimoto is result of high antibodies.
Thanks.

I'm not sure if this helps, but I just learned there is a high correlation between miscarriage and antibodies.  Is your wife seeing a specialist?

Extensive bloodwork after two chemical pregnancies has shown that I have protein antibodies as well as a moderate high level of cardiolipin IGGs.  When I next try to concieve naturally I will be taking daily doses of baby aspirin as well as twice daily injections of fragmin (low molecular weight heparin).

Good luck.

We have gone through 2 IVF with no success. We know about her high level of antibodies and hypothyrodism, but have not looked into Hashimoto.
Thanks for your update and good luck with your third child.

I also have hypothyroidism , also the hashimoto's and it does make it difficult to become pregnant... I did some research and started taking VITEX, you can get it at any vitamin store...Also have your wife go to a specialist like an endocrinologist, that's what I did and I am due with our third child in April... Good luck!

I am not sure what to tell you, except that I would see an RE.  I can tell you we have more then one member here with hypothyroid who has successfully conceived and had  a healthy pregnancy.  Good luck to you.
