Due to being 35 the doctor advised me of the different blood test to determine down syndrome and wanted me to decide what I want to do. I have read about Harmony and MareniT21. Which test did yall do and or recommend.

I am 39 and decided to refuse the blood test and ultrasound to check for downes.  The nurse told me that one of the ladies had all of the tests done and they all came back negative and when she had her baby it had downes.  So I felt like it was a big waste of money.  I did have the blood test done with my 2nd pregnancy at age 36 and my out of pocket was high.  Hoping for a healthy baby again this time.  If the test was positive I would still have him.

All the blood screenings like maternit21 and harmony take blood from the mother and separates her dna from the dna pieces that are from the placenta. It is not baby dna. It is usually correct but can have false negative and positive readings due to varianced between placental and fetal dna that can happen.  Hence it is only a screening.  Not a test.

Amniocentesis and CVS are the only true tests for chromosomal issues. CVS can also have false positive and negative readings because it takes a sample of placental tissue to test.

Harmony if I am correct will give you odds of chromosomal issues adding the risks of age and if any increased chromosomes were found. Maternit21 gives you positive or negative with a small disclaimer that it is a screening and follow up testing with your doctor for a full diagnosis.

Please read online about these tests. It is an awesome thing in theory but their 99% accuracy claims are balogna.

@chengburn78 that's an amniocentesis. Now doctors like to do a blood test instead because the amnio is invasive and carries too many risks like increased chance of miscarriage, leaking amniotic fluid or injuring the baby.

I don't know whether applies to which country u are in...I have been advised about the down syndrome test. ..im in the UK. ..n im debating to have it done. ..cos reading the above comments about blood tests. ..the process is different in the uk as the midwife sticks a needle in the placenta at the back of bb neck n checks for down syndrome. ..99% accurate. ..

I had the materniT21 test done at 10 weeks. I had my results a week later. Everything came back normal and I found out I am having a boy.

I had the MaternaT21 test done. They don't just prick your finger they actually draw a vial of blood. It is 99% accurate and isolates your baby's DNA in your blood and looks at the chromosomes. It detects any chromosomal abnormalities and will tell you they baby's gender. I highly recommend it, the hardest part is waiting for the results, it took about a week and a half for me.

Don't waste your time (and the stress) of the basic blood work, they just prick your finger they don't get a lot of blood so the results are not very accurate. I did the Free Cell DNA test, it's about 94% accurate. The test is done between 12-16 weeks. It also lets you know the babies gender :-)
