Early pregnancy concerns...

Hi all,
I am 36, have a 3 years old boy (no complications with him), and had a mc early Feb this year.
We've been trying since last year - all naturally, no treatment. I should be 5 weeks pg today.
My cycle is very short (25 days) and very precise. Last period started Apr 17. So on May 12 I was already feeling pg, and confirmed with HPT on May 13. On May 15 saw my doctor and did a blood work - HCG was 647. This was last week, on Tue. It was weird, bc though early I had all symptoms, very strong - morning sickness, sensitivity to smell and taste, even my pants started feeling tight. On Wed night I saw some blood and immediately started Progesterone pills. On Fri - new blood test. They gave me the result this Mon, HCG was only 821 and they said progesterone level went down.
This Tue I realized I have lost almost all pg symptoms and was continuing to spot dark. So I was sure I will mc any day.
My doctor called yesterday and said they want me to start the progesterone suppositories. I told them, that I think it's all over and there is no point, but they insisted I don't give up yet since there's only been a little blood.
I started them last night, spotting stopped today, but I feel a little pain in my lower back. I have an appointment tomorrow. I feel very upset, because I have a feeling that they give me false hopes and also I know that if I mc now it will be much easier than in a few weeks.
A thought sneaks in from time to time that almost makes me cry... Maybe there's a little fighter inside there and I'm a bad mommy that doesn't believe in him (her)...

Has anybody spotted so long and so early and lost all symptoms and had it all come back to normal?

Thank you for your input! I guess it can go both ways from here :( I have an appointment in a couple of hours maybe they'll do an u/s and we'll see. No spotting since yesterday.

Here is an update:
I went to the doctor yesterday, but since I wasn't spotting anymore they said they'll just take blood. The nurse asked me about the spotting I had had and when I said it was dark (brownish) she said not to worry about it - it was "old blood".
I told her, that I don't feel pg anymore, but she said let's wait for the results.
So today I called. The Progesterone went up (that is to be expected if I am doing the suppositories), but the HCG went down :( They  wouldn't tell me numbers, cause I probably sound crazy and obsessed.
I will have to go again for a blood test on Tuesday and then I have u/s scheduled for Wed next week (should be 6w 2d by then if everything goes well).
Not feeling very optimistic right now...
