Gestational Diabetes

Well I failed my second diabets tests. They want me to come in on friday to discuss with doctor. This is my 3rd time with this. Do they put you on insulin with Gestational Diabetes. I am nervous on what he is going to tell me friday. Normally, when I get it I can control it with diet and no meds. I am trying no to worry about it, but I am such a worry person....At least I know I will get an ultrsound every week, to ceck the size of baby cause they can get big

Hi,

I am now on my second pregnancy and have diabetes.  INsulin is pretty easy to do and not so bad.  The main thing is to make sure our babies are healthy.  We are lucky we have the available tools to do that.

Hi. I just had a baby at the end of march. This was my second pregnancy with gestational diabetes.  Your dr will determine the best course of action for you. I started out with just the diet my first pregnancy and did end up taking insulin shots because the diet wasn't making a big enough difference. The dr did not want to give me the drugs that were in pill form because 6 years ago they weren't sure they were safe. I had a beautiful healthy baby girl in jan 06. With my son who I had in march the diet was not enough and I was put on pills this time around. He is healthy and handsome and is now 4 months old.

You and your baby will be just fine. The dr will typically monitor you more closely which should help ease your mind.  Please in box me if there's anything I can do to help.

It does not necessarily mean insulin.  Many women manage their gestational diabetes through diet/excercise alone.  Some need insulin.  Neither are horrible options.  I know it sounds scary, but it's not uncommon, and I have yet to see a baby born of a mother with gestational diabetes that was not born healthy.  It's going to be fine...work with your Dr. and try not to worry.  No matter what the decision in treatment, it all will work out ok.
