I took way too much my first time. A lot depends on if natural or you end up with a c section. Comfy pjs thay you can nurse in, comfy clothes to leave in, clothes for baby, tooth brush, hair brush, deodorant for you. A camera and baby car seat set up in the car.
There are a bunch of different lists you can google, I would look at a few and pick what you want, but you won't need as much as you think the hospital has what you need. One think I would recommend to pack that may not be on a list is snacks.
I recommend for you something comfortable and loose to go home in, several pairs of cheap underwear and possibly your own maxi pads the ones the hospital have sometimes suck, easy snacks, basic bathroom items ( though brush hair brush shampoo ect), and a phone charger.
For baby the hospital should provide diapers wipes cloths and blankets while there. The bare minimum you need is a car seat, a going home outfit, blankets or whatever else might be needed for going home if it's cold or the trip is long. If you wish to bring your own diapers wipes or bottles or anything you can.
If your breast feeding you should bring nursing pads, lanolin cream, and maybe the cool gel nipple pads for any irritation.
I have a list in my journals if you just click my name you can see it
Hi Vanessa,
There's a great article on MedHelp.org and in Week 32 of the I'm Expecting app with suggestions for what to pack for you, your partner, and the baby:
http://www.medhelp.org/pregnancy-health/articles/Your-Hospital-Bag-What-to-Pack--What-to-Leave-at-Home/2226
the only thing you really need is a carseat to bring the baby home
the hospital will provide everything for the baby
popsicles might be nice during labor
a robe will be a nice addition
you will be so exhausted from giving birth amenities won't matter -- you can always send someone for anything you'd like, or tell people on their way to visit new baby to bring what you need
wi am just starving afterwards which someone can get you take-out or food from the hospital cafeteria
i wasn't able to eat sugar during my 1st pregnancy, so i ordered every sweet treat i could eat (from the cafeteria aand vending machines) after the baby was born!!!
