I need some guidance on what to do please

I have been trying to sort out my fertility for a while and since I lost my boy in Sept 09 I am supposed to be getting this looked at, however it seems to be taking a long time and now that I am 40 (July 10) I am concerned on how much time I have left.  My partner has to take methotrexate for psorasis and after advice from this forum and some reading we feel that we are willing to take a chance on getting pregnant knowing this.  So I need advice on please ladies on what to do next and here is my most recent history:-

On my previous appointment my consultant seemed pretty adamant about the fact that my egg releasing after cd19 was not a good thing.  I had managed to extend my luteal phase to 12-14 days after cd19, but no bfp sadly and last month I stopped taking the B6 and my cycle went back to 28 days.  I was supposed to see my consultant on last Thursday, but he was ill so saw someone else and she wasn't at all helpful.  I got the distinct feeling that I was being fobbed off.  Basically was told that I would not be put on clomid or anything else as I have a cyst on my right ovary measuring 3cm x 3cm. I tried to find out whether they plan to remove it, but she just kept saying I'd have to see my own consultant so what was the whole point of me going to this appointment!

At the end of this appointment I had bloods for yet another test which I didn't quiet grasp d245 or something, but that could be totally wrong. From my previous blood test I have been told that I am ovulating.  I asked her if she could help me understand what is going on with my fertility as I have been pregnant twice in 17 years, but bled a lot through both and had to have d&c's (at 8 weeks and the latter at 19 weeks though that was a decision we made which I so regret I was niave re methotrexate and we were told some horror stories).  This consultant told me that that aspect wouldn't be looked into as they only look when there are 3 or more miscarrages so I do not fit this criteria.  I am so annoyed and frustrated that I seem to be getting no answers and was then informed that my next appointment would be in oct/nov which was unacceptable so I have managed (after kicking up a stink) to get an appointment for 22 sept.

Why when this is a difficult time anyway, do I have to feel like I have to fight and argue just to get information and help..... I'm so missing my boy and really need to know if there is a chance of me getting pregnant again as I don't want to live under any false hope.  So sorry for going on a bit I am just so fed up and sad right now. (FYI I am in the UK on the NHS so really don't get a lot of say so in which consultant I get to see and how to proceed). Any advice on fertility or how to get pregnant (no matter how weird) would be so gratefully received - thanks.

Well first of all, let me reassure you that there is absolutely a chance you will get pregnant.  I know how frustrating it can be getting answers on infertility..sometimes it seems hopeless.  I had several miscarriages and even when I had the testing there was no real answer.  I will give you a few tips in hopes that they work for you.

One of the issues we "older" moms to be (I am 41) have is lack of cervical mucus.  Use an OPK (I recommend the Clear Blue digital) to sort out when you now ovulate (if you are on a 28 day cycle, it's probably somewhere around day 14, but best to find out for sure).  Once you know that, a few days to a week before you ovulate eliminate anything from your diet that can dehydrate (such as caffeine or alchol).  Increase your water intake, and you can also try taking Robitussin (yes, the cough syrup).  Make sure it is the correct one for this. PM me and I can send you a website link if you like.  All of these things increase your fertile mucus dramatically.  Once you get a positive on your OPK, bd every single day for several days (some will say every other day, it's not necessary to wait).  Stay on your back afterward, no going to the bathroom for at least 1/2 hour.  No lubricants either.  The only one that is sperm friendly is pre-seed.  Many think pre-seed actually helps you conceive.  That is not really true, but it is the only lubricant that sperm can get through and won't kill it off.

These are the things that worked for me personally.  I had my son on week before my 41st birthday and he was naturally conceived.  I hope some of it helps you too!

Good luck and SSBD to you!!!

Thank you for all your responses ladies.  I know that I am ovulating around cd19/20 and my cm seems fine I do normally drink plenty of water, however my consultant seems pretty sure that its the lateness of ovulation within my cycle that causes difficulty for me in getting pregnant (plus my db being on methotrexate).  It doesn't seem to matter at the moment whether my cycle is 28 days or 34 days my ovulation doesn't change from cd19/20 and I have been monitoring this for around 10 months now.  We worked out that when I did get pregnant that I had a 'blip' and ovulated on cd14, but don't know why or how and it hasn't happened since.

I have thought for a brief moment about getting drugs over the internet, however I don't feel confident with self medicating and for now will wait until I get a lot more info from my consultant.  Its just the lack of help, understanding and no urgency shown by the medical profession that is really hard to take - I don't want any special treatment, just when I was told that I would get some form of treatment within weeks and 10 months later due to cancellations I am still waiting - its so frustrating.  I have joined a gym and hopefully will be able to get fitter and healthier to try and help. Adgal - I haven't tried the cough mixture will look out for that but have been doing the bding as suggested for a while now!

Higgins I am so sorry for your loss, it is such a hard thing to go through I wish you lots of SSBD for the future.  Thanks again ladies as always you have been a source of strength when I feel so lost.

You could get a prescription for a much higher dose than the one you take and divide the pills, a pack of pills would last several months. Just an idea!

I just have to send out a word of caution.  It is not safe to order clomid off the internet.  It is a drug that should be used only under a Dr.s care.  You can wind up with overstimulated ovaries, cyst's, and also you do not know if your source is safe.  Sorry, had to comment...it is jsut not a good idea.

I'm very sorry about your last D&C, it must have been very hard. But don't loose hope: you can still get pregnant!!

As Adgal mentioned, increase your water intake - 2 liters is a good volume. And do buy a digital monitor, they're the best. You can also use regular vegetable oil as a lubricant (this idea was recommended to me by my old fertility doctor), I got pregnant with it several times.

Relax! Try to do relaxing things around your ovulation time. I know stress vs being relaxed played a big role for me in getting pregnant. I got pregnant with my son last summer while on vacation, after I had lost hope of ever getting pregnant (at almost 41).

Also: have your partner jog around your ovulation time. Nothing scientific but my husband told me it increases his libido and I got pregnant on a day he had 2 long jogs.

Good luck!!
