worried about the ultrasound

I'm 37 and 15 weeks pregnant. At 19 weeks I'm doing the advanced maternal age genetic ultrasound. I'm around they will find something wrong with the baby. And because I'm part Italian they have to do a special test for that.  When I had the 10 week ultrasound the baby was perfect length and had a normal heartbeat.  Has anyone else had this test and what were the results. I'm really starting to worry. Good thing is we will find out the sex.

I'm 15 weeks pregnant also and I am 38. I also will be having a level 2 ultrasound when I'm 18 weeks. I'm a little nervous but I pray everything will be fine.

It sounds like to me a Level II ultrasound that a pregnant woman usually gets at around 19-20 weeks of pregnancy. The only difference I found was that a technician (or a doctor) who performs the ultrasound takes significantly more time than the first US and goes much into details. For instance, the technician who performed mine measured each finger and toe of the baby. She also took many pictures of heart (each chamber) and kidney from different angles. And of course, showed me the spot where she/I could tell if it is a girl or a boy. So,...do not worry so much. I know it's easier said than done but I'm sure and pray everything is fine.:)

About different genetic tests, I read from a book that depending on your and your partner's ancestry, doctors recommend some different genetic testings. As far as I remember, none of the issues if found are life-threatening and the purpose of the testing is more like to have the family prepared and be educated with what to do. But again, don't worry too much. Believe in yourself and the baby. Good luck and keep us posted!

I don't have much to add to what adgal said...I am having an ultrasound (doctor keep s calling it my "formal" ultrsound) plus the AFP blood test as well as a screening test to see if I carry the gene for cystic fibrosis.

I do want to say that ultrasound isn't 100% accurate on detecting the baby's sex. USUALLY a boy will show (and sometimes an umbilical cord is mistaken for a boy)...but when they say the baby looks like a girl, what that means is they don't see boy equipment..it doesn't mean you for sure have a girl. I was just reading a story on another site about a woman who had a girl when the ultrasound showed a boy...quite a surprise! :)

Well, I can't say I had any special test.  However, I will tell you this.  More often then not, the worry that something is wrong is far stronger then the reality.   I know everything in pregnancy is worriesome, and sometimes even more so for those of us over 35.  But know what?  Almost always everything is ok.  Can't wait to hear if you are team blue or pink!!!
