Midwives

Hello ladies or and parents,

I would like to first mention that I want tips NOT opinions on hospitals vs home birth or Birthing Center.
I wanted to know is there any one that is going the normal route and having or planning on having or have had a home birth? If so do you have any tips? This is my second child first was with midwives/ hospital.
Thank you

Congrats on your baby. My opinion, have it at the hospital with an OB to take care of guy. You can still have a midwife along the way but I don't recommend home birth. God forbid something goes wrong for you or the baby it will take too long to get to the hospital. I have heard many stories, one lady just recently was having home birth, her water broke and her midwife told her to wait because she wasn't getting contractions close enough. She made her wait 24 hrs and still told her baby was fine. The mother and father didn't feel right about waiting any longer so went to ththe hospital. Thank god she did the baby had already digested.its meconium and could have died. It was in ICU for a week with a very bad bacterial infection.thank god they went when they did. My first delivery I went into antiphylactic shock, had I been home I would have died, I'm lucky I was at the hospital and they were able to save me quickly. I just think when it comes to a human life why take a risk, she will be home with you forever. Don't risk your life or your babies. There is a reason we have hospitals and doctors. Good luck in your decision and all the best

Hi there, I would consider how your first went and see how you feel about other options than hospital.  I am just pregnant with my second, but had a rough labour with number 1, forceps, cutting and lots of stitching (sorry TMI).  When I went to see my midwife she suggested other options, birth centre or home, but I am back to hospital as that's where I feel most comfortable.  In my ante-natal group, with baby 1, one of the ladies used the birthing centre and said it was fabulous.  Is it possible for you to go and visit the birthing centre?  For me the things I would think about would be each places distance from your home, and I don't like to say it, but how far the birthing centre is from the hospital, just in case.
Good luck with what ever you choose!

Thank you very much for responding Csecker and no not TMI, details for me is always best! My first pregnancy she took a little over 3 hours to come so was great just not any support from her dad and he ended up in jail so was not there for the birth. That was 18 years ago now and I am now married and my second pregnancy, 1st child with my husband.  He wants a home birth as bad as I do because we believe that's where it all started and we both hate hospital after what we have experienced, him being in the military and me having a lot of surgeries in my past so hospital is a last resort.
We have interviewed  midwives, birthing centers and I will be interviewing a new OB, just in case, since the 2 I had, 1 has retired and the other one is retiring at the end of February so before my baby is due which is the beginning of March.
As for how far as birthing center is. Well we are ready to deliver it if it comes before we get there or they get to us. Thank you again and good luck too.
