New here: 40 and trying to conceive! :)

I'm happy I found you guys. I think my fiancee and I are a little nuts, but we really want to have a baby together! :D He has 3 children from his previous marriage and I have 3 from my previous marriage...but we would LOVE to have a baby of our own.

We are not actively trying...per se...but we're not taking birth control either.  His mindset is...if it happens, it happens. (He doesn't want me stressing out about it too much.)

I had my FSH checked a few times on day 3 of my cycle.  The first time it was terrible (55).  I was convinced there must have been a lab error.  They all just figured I was in denial...and didn't want to accept the fact that I was in menopause.  I insisted they check it again.  The next month it was 5.6 (five point six) and the month after that it was 5.2 (five point two).  So my doctor says he is shocked and that there must have been a lab error because I couldn't possible go from 55 to 5.

The only thing is, my estradiol was elevated at 75 one month and 120 the next.  Could those higher estradiol numbers be artificially keeping my FSH low?

I started taking DHEA as I read really good things about it helping egg quality and increasing chances of conception.

Any how...I guess I don't really have any questions...I'm just hoping those of you who had babies at 40+ will chime in and assure me that I'm not nuts and that he/she will be a wonderful blessing...a true joy.  OHMYGOSH...I'm also thinking maybe he/she will need a little sibling too...lol.  My boyfriend's always telling me to calm down and take things one day at a time.

It's nice to meet you all...baby dust to you all!!

Hi Chickadee,
Actually you are correct, elevated estradiol does suppress fsh. I know, because I have a high fsh, and one time I was excited that it went down to 5.5 but my estradiol was 89 so my doctor explained it to me.  My previous fsh had been 18 and 20.  I am currently taking wheat grass pills and acupuncture to lower my fsh.  I am no longer checking my fsh because I really don't want to hear that I can't get pregnant because lots of women on this site have with a higher fsh than me.   Welcome to the site!  You will find lots of support here.

Hello everyone,
This is my first post on this forum as I've been in the miscarriage section.  I have 2 children, 4 and 6 years old, and we lost our third at 18 weeks.  We are ready to TTC again, and I thought we were a little crazy before, but now I think we are even crazier trying again after such a devastation.  I'm glad to hear so many people feeling it is natural trying for more after 35.  Best of luck to everyone and I hope to hear more success stories from you all!

Thank you Suzy!  I'm so excited for you and your significant other.  You guys sound like us.  We're not "officially" engaged...just talk as if it's a done deal.  Who knows when we'll actually make it official.  Someday I hope, but for now I am just very, very happy that he's in my life and am enjoying every day we have together.  My divorce is fairly new, so there is no sense in jumping immediately into another marriage.  We want to buy a motorhome and travel around the US and Canada too.  We like to day dream about it together.  Before we started thinking about a baby it was just going to be the two of us...but if we have a baby, he/she can come along too! ;)  It's nice to meet you!  Congratulations!

:) Awesome!  We want a daughter too.  I have 3 sons and have always wanted a little girl.  He has 2 sons and a daughter and wants another baby girl with me.  I guess we get what we get (hopefully!) :)  I'll be ecstatic either way, but would definitely be over the moon if it were a girl.

Hi there...i'm actually a "newbe" on here as well, and the advice and inspirational stories the women on here have shared with me i've completely embraced. I am 39 years old, I have two beautiful Daughter's 18 and 11 and my fiance has a son 14. We planned on getting married 'someday', which means we will when the time feels right, no date, no pressures, no worries.   September 1st I was 'suppose' to start my period and the day came and went and nooo Aunt Flo. I no maybe jumped the gun, but being the paranoid person that i am, i went and got a pregnancy test, pee'd on the stick and was relieved after a minute went by and only one little line, i was laughing out loud, thinking "Wow, you are really paranoid"....THEN...THEN...a minute later  i glanced back at it and A SECOND LINE!!! i just put the lid down on the toilet seat and sat there and stared at it for about ten minutes.  My fiance and I are still in a state of shock, and i am  a ball full of mixed emotions, happy , sad, scared, excited. We just talked about in a few years getting a motor home and selling the house and travelling the country side, or maybe being like the Zach Brown Band song...live in a van travel and live on love!!!LOL!   well, life has taken a drastic turn.  I found this sight when i was in a fog and a complete state of confusion.  I posted , I'm 39 and pregnant!!! is that too old....and wow, did some wonderful women open my eyes...i was told -well, no your not. if you were too old you wouldn't of got pregnant in the first place!   and i thought about it she was so right. and NO , you aren't too old.  I know now after reading my posts back to me, that i am lucky and this baby is a miracle and a blessing. So many night by fiance(Dave) and i would lay in bed together having our "pillow talk", and we would tell each other how great it would have been to have a baby together, what we would of named him or her. But we felt our time has passed , we've had our children, we just had to go down different paths before we found each other(he is the love of my life, my soul mate by the way), we both have been through so much in our past relationships, we just accepted that we were too old, we had our kids, and that was going to be our family.   And wow, how life can change in the blink of an eye. This baby is truly a part of each of us and was a miracle, really. I say this, still in shock. We are waiting a couple months before we drop the news. its our little secret.:)    I wish you the best of luck, and don't worry your NOT CRAZY!!!  take care! :)

Thanks Risa...that is sort of what I was afraid of.  I do take a multivitamin, vitamin B12, and DHEA.  I'm hoping this will help.  I'll look into the wheat grass.  I'm thinking of getting my FSH checked not this upcoming period...but the month after...after I've been on the DHEA for a couple of months to see if it has helped at all and to see what my estradiol is doing.  I really hope he and I can have a baby, but I'm going to try not to be too upset if we can't as we do both have 3 children.  I just really want a baby with him. I'll just have to take things one day at a time. :)

Thanks for your reply. Yes, vitamins, exercises, healthy diet...I do everything, although all these helps only indirectly, according to research...

Hi! i am 40 years old and 14 weeks pregnant so nope you are not crazy. I have 4 healthy strong boys but i feel like this baby is a blessing from god because i lost my mom in January and right before she died she asked me to have her grand daughter (thou i don't know if this is a girl or not) and i was told with my last pregnancy that i would never be able to have another child because my stomach muscles weren't strong enough to hold another child. This pregnancy has been a breeze so far and me and the baby r doing fine. So don't worry about being 40 sweetie if it was meant to be it will be just believe and it will happen. GOOD LUCK!!!!

Hi and welcome to you.  I started ttc at 38 and had 5 losses (first trimester) in less then 2 years.  At 40 i got pregnant with my son and had a successful pregnancy..he is now a healthy happy 7 month old.  Despite lots of tests, they never really found a reason.  There are many stories like mine. It's hard, but I can tell you at the end it's worth it.

I had my first baby at 40 (one week before my 41st actually), so I don't think your nuts at all. I want to have another!!  If your nuts, there are a lot of us crazies in here..lol.

I honestly don't know much about estradiol, but your FSH is excellent!  Mine was around 10 if I remember correctly.  I can tell you that sometimes it can take longer now and if after a few months nothing, you may want to see an RE.  Also, try using an OPK for timed intercourse...worked for me.  Another common issue at our age is lack of fertile mucus (or decreased amounts).  Around ovulation time, cut out anything that can dehydrate you such as caffeine or alcohol and increase your water intake.  It really helps.

Good luck to you and welcome.  I can tell you that I have absolutely no regrets at having my son at 40.  I wouldn't change a thing!!
