Pregnant @ 50?

This feels like something out of the twilight zone, but here it is...
I just turned 50 a month or so ago.
I am a very healthy, fit, and health conscious woman.
My periods are still like clock work on a 28 day cycle.
So here it is, I started feeling nausea in the morning. When I get up and eat something it goes away.
My Last couple periods were fairly spotty albeit on time, not sure if it would qualify as an actual menstrual flow.
My breast were not tender at all until just yesterday, so last night I went to CVS and bought a First Response early pregnancy test.
Before I tell you the result, I have to mention that my Husband of nearly 25 years got a vasectomy a few months after my second child was born 14 years ago.
I followed the instructions to a T, and OMG...it shows positive. It says I am preggers!  
I was wondering two things...
1. what is the real false positive rate for these test...I have heard it to be very low.
2. What is the rate of failed vasectomy's after 10 years or more?
My husband and I have been extremely sexually active over the Summer as we both took six weeks off from the office.

I think it all depends on whether you have been raising kids already and have been there done that, or if you feel you have another 20 years in you to devote to that project.  If it is what you want, it's certainly a goal worth having.  If you're over it (the continual duty of raising kids) I'm not here to say do it again.  In my case, we tried a long, long time to get pregnant, and when I finally did, I wouldn't have cared if all my golden years were devoted to bringing my kid into adulthood rather than travelling around the world with my husband.  But that's probably because my husband and I had already been married 20 years when our son came along -- we'd had a lot of time for the fun-alone-as-a-couple stuff.

that's how my husband was created his parents had vas and ten yrs later he was born.

I'm dying to know if the OP is in fact pregnant! I think this is amazing. I am 37 and 14 weeks pregnant with my 2nd. Had my first at 32. I love hearing about others having babies later because sometimes it feels like I am the only one. Keep us posted!

Well I wasn't talking abt keeping up at 50... I'm referring to being pregnant at 50 and then 17 years plus of having to take care of the teen. That would make it almost 70 years when the child needs the most attention or when they rebel. That's what I was taking abt. At 70 I'm sure going to b4 tire of dealing with that instead of what I have planned which is just traveling around the work with my husband.

You will not be too tired at age 53 to keep up or even enjoy yourself.  Maybe at 93, but not at 53.

I'm 38 at was scared to even try to get pregnant this late. Mine was planned but I knew I definitely did not want to get pregnant after 40. Just because of the high risk factors and the high possibility of down syndrome when ur older. I also live a very healthy life style so I had that as a plus for this and am so grateful that I have not had any complications at all and all my genetics testing came back normal. I hope that is the same case for u. My husband has also mentioned having another child after this one since this is his 1st but I'm scared of the health issues and having to raise another child this late. I think when this child is 15 or a teen I'll be too tired to keep up and even enjoy myself. And I'm gonna have to put this child in a bad situation to take care of me when I'm Older incase I can't take care of myself. Any ways we will see.  But congrats on ur pregnancy I would be so scared but I wish u the best

Sounds like your pregnant.  Let your doctors office know and get a blood test done.  Praying for a happy healthy pregnancy for you!!

What I have been reading is that the new frer have been giving many false positives.

You can't get a false positive. The test picks up the pregnancy hormone which is only in the body once conception happens. You can get a false negative if hormone levels are too low to detect. If you get positive test then negative (both done first thing in the morning when hormone levels are highest), that indicates a drop in the hormone levels which could indicate a problem.

I know a couple whose husband had a vasectomy and they now have another little boy that's a big blessing! I am 46 and 14 wks pregnant and happy! Don't let Dr scare you with statistics. They tend to focus on negatives instead of all the positives! God choose you to be this babies Mom,what a blessing! We also have been married for 24 yrs and our baby will be born a couple months before our  25 anniversary.
When my Mom gave birth to her 2nd son lady across the hall gave birth at 54 to a healthy baby!
Odds are actually higher to have a healthy baby than one with genetic abnormalities! Especially since you are fit and healthy!

Yeah, my friend got pregnant off of a vasectomy client (though she said he did it in Mexico on the cheap). My second cousin was a result of a vasectomy as well...

The human body does repair itself quite well too and well, anything is possible.

If you got a positive on a home test, it is very likely to be correct.  Go to the doctor's and confirm with a blood test.  (You want to get an hCG number, and to test again in 48 hours, to check the rate it is rising.  That will tell you whether the pregnancy seems like it is progressing normally.)

If your husband is likely to think he is not the father due to his vasectomy, ask him to go to the doctor and get a sperm count done.  It's not unheard of for a vasectomy to fail.  If he never took a test after getting the vas, it is even possible that he had a few swimmers all along since the vasectomy and it just never hit.

If you do show as pregnant and your rate of hCG is doubling like it should, talk to the doctor about prenatal tests he or she would recommend.

ps -- it is not unheard of for women to conceive in their 50s, rare though it might be.
