Brownish Spotting - 35 and pregnant

I 35 and pregnant for the second time. I am just under 5 weeks and having light brown/mucous type discharge on and off - about 4 times in the last 4 days. Only noticeable when I wipe. Very light cramping. Should I be concerned?

I called my Ob & was given the option to do a blood draw to determine HCG. The spotting has slowed down so I am choosing to observe until my dr appt in a couple of weeks. I am having an ultrasound done then. If it continues or changes to a pink or red color, I am advised to call back. How is your pregnancy progressing?

You definitely need to call your OB and tell them.

I had brown spotting when I was about 10 or 11 weeks along. I called my doctor and she saw me the next day, checked my cervix and did an ultrasound to check on the baby. That is when we discovered that I had a low lying placenta. I was put on pelvic rest.

Brown discharge isn't as concerning as red discharge, but it still needs to be checked out. It could be a sign of your cervix thinning when it shouldn't or possibly an infection that needs to be treated (or like me, a low lying placenta).
